can be found in the following areas- Calais up to June 1940, Durban, (S. Africa) late 1941, Freetown- 1941-on .
Also there is an ocean liner and another companion ship that travels to Freetown from the south around where sections EU and ET meet at their southern points |

Unless identified as troop ships CLEARLY, I leave them alone-too fast mostly and a real chance it may be a neutral. Just my opinion.
![]() Plenty of other juicy targets to sink.

If it's unfriendly and it floats, it sinks!

Anything flying the Union Jack short of a hospital ship is fair game.

In the novel "Das Boot", I remember the reaction of the Captain upon the discovery his # 1 had failed to check the appendix to the recognition manual, after they had stopped a liner. The Captain was not indifferent to the lives of hundreds of passengers aboard the liner. He was angry they had almost made a terrible mistake. Sink a neutral liner.
Then what happens? Make the crew promise to keep the sinking a secret. Edit the patrol log. Blame the enemy for the sinking to incite hostilities with a neutral country. It wasn't until recently I discovered the song, "It's a long way to Tipperary" was the last song played on the SS Athenia before she went down, hence the "inside joke" among U-boat crews when they sang it. Should the war not end with our success, I'd rather spend a few years in prison than dangle at the end of a rope until I suffocate. If I'm going to suffocate, I'll do it while looking into the eyes of my crewmates as we travel to the bottom.
