I'd just completed a very successful 13th patrol in a Type VIIb, allocated crew awards, partly reassigned the crew, installed the (newly available) MAN supercharger upgrade, replaced the two type II torpedoes in tubes 3 and 4 with type Is, and clicked on the map to start a new patrol. Some distance out of Brest, I checked the torpedo loadout, and found it contained a whole bunch of type II fish. Although it's now January 1941, I still don't trust the type IIs, and apart from that, I'm a speed freak, so with a suitable expletive, I abort and reload my "outbound" save, which I routinely make as we're leaving the dock, with a complete route to the patrol square plotted. Drat and double drat - it's got the same mixed loadout!
Don't panic - there's the "In base before mission" default save available. I load it, go to the torpedo screen, and replace the 2 type IIs as before. Just to confirm everything else is as before, I check the "equipment" screen, and I've got the MAN engine upgrade. Then to the "crew" screen, where I see my new crew layout flash up for an instant, to be replaced by the old layout. The old layout with none of the awards that should be there. Now back to the "In base after mission" save, and go through the whole crew & equipment process again, recheck the solely type I loadout, and click on the map. We're in the dock at Brest with the same crap ?*%$& loadout as before, including the 5 type IIs. Last resort - load the last save made on the way back to port from the previous mission, travel back, dock, and go through the whole process again. This time I find we're in dock with the standard loadout for this period - type IIs in tubes 3 & 4. Seeing a glimmer of hope (at least something's changed), I reload the "In base before mission" save, check everything, replace the two type IIs, click on the map and Lo! everything is fine, except of course we're bound for unknown (and possibly deadly) adventures. Signed: Jorg Neumann, Lieutenant Commander (A much older and wiser man) P.S. Any idea what caused these aberrations?

T2s work fine. Set them for impact. True they cannot be set to go faster, but they don't leave bubbles.
If you reload at base and don't have the awards assigned, you should be able to go to the crew tab and reallocate them. |

The torpedo loadouts change by year on January 1. If you are selecting your loadout in December, and the date when the game loads is in January, the loadout reverts to the standard loadout for the new year.

Remember in SH3 the type II at Slow runs at 28 kts instead of 30 kts. This may be be an issue if you use manual targeting.

Thanks for the replies, but you're missing the point - my loadout selection wouldn't "stick" when starting the mission. I copied the career, and tried selecting ALL type IIs. On starting the mission, loadout reverted to the mixed loadout I described. Problem has now gone away, as I described above, and the selected loadout "sticks".
Zosimus - couldn't reallocate awards after loading "In base before mission", because they were all null - no awards of any kind listed. HW3 - I take your point, but I was losing all awards also.

If year changes between patrols manually selecting torps won't help...

Re-running the last leg of the previous patrol, re-docking and redoing awards and equipment made the difference. "In base after mission" Dec 8th. 1940 "In base before mission" Jan 5th. 1941 - All torps are now type Is. Start mission, and type IIs back in tubes 3 & 4. Reload "In base before mission" (All awards and new equipment have "stuck" this time), and change 3 & 4 to type Is yet again, and start mission. Leave dock Jan 5th. with all type Is loaded. All is as desired aboard U-53 once more.

I know I did edit the default torpedo loadouts a few years back, because I was really annoyed that you have to do it yourself on start of every patrol.
Can't remember which files those were though... |

Basic.cfg is the file. Each boay type has an ammo load out by year.
Kinda tedious to do by hand. Someone made a tweaker that made it a bit easier. More knowledgeable folks might know. Wolfies mini tweaker maybe? T |
