Default German voices?

I'm a (British) English speaker, but is it possible to play the game with your crew having German voices, but the interface in English? If this is possible, do you miss out on any important information if the crew have German voices (I can't understand most German except the most basic stuff)? I just like the idea for total immersion! :-)

Hi Metalogic,

yes, it is possible. Go to the main page, select "Option" and then change "Voices Language" from English to German. That's all. The other two "Languages" must be selected as "English".

Greetings

Great, thanks! Are the crew voices mostly for "flavour" or would I miss out on any important information if I don't fully understand what they're saying?

It's like watching Das Boot, it just must be heard in German! You won't miss anything, it'll be written in english on the screen.

Speaking of which, if the thought of having the voices be not only German but the actual voices from the movie, you can do this:

Like Steve says. The original German speech - files are a bit... Let's say... "without life"

That's a good description.

More than a decade ago we had a German member asking if anybody could send him the complete speech files from Destroyer Command. He said that he'd rather hear flat, awful American voices while he read the German text than listen to flat, awful German voices with bad American accents.

Ahh nice one. Will download as soon as I get access to high speed... in fact I might just head out right now to the cafe just to download this. Danke!
Like the OP said, this kind of stuff really makes or breaks immersion.

There are two other German voice packs that can be used either with DBSM or the stock voice pack. They are Scire-Tikigod's Repeated Orders, which has most common operating orders passed "down the chain" and Einbecker's Spirit of Machines. Spirit of machines mostly has the repeated orders, and adds the sound of mechanical actuators - rudder motors, dive plane servos, electrical switches. Both mods can be found at Plissken's. Neither is as comprehensive as DBMS, so you can add them over the top and keep DBSM voices around also.

Thanks BigWalleye, downloading now! I love the idea of repeated orders, sounds like one of those 'must use' mods.
Btw the Plissken's site is impressive.. very nice.
