Sinking Warships, Does It Add To Total?

Hello all, I'm pretty new here and I don't know how active this forum is anymore but I have a question

So i'm doing the first 'Happy Times' campaign and I want to know if sinking warships adds to the total of the 'Sink 200,000 tonnes in the North Atlantic Total'. I've had loads of problems with this game simply not adding my kills to the tonnage bar anyway but I don't want to be wasting eels on juicy targets when they're not going to add to the total anyway.
