Default New to SHIII

I have just received the Encore version of SH3 that is updated to v1.4b and is Starforce free.
When installed will the game play automatically on Windows 7, or should I change the .exe to Windows XP Service Pack 2?
Also does it need to be run as an administrator?

On my Win7 box, SH3 plays fine in native mode (no compatibility mode required), and does not need to be run as administrator. Just do not install it in the Program Files directory as Win7 enforces special security policies for everything in that directory, which are problematical for SH3.

Oh, and "Welcome to SHIII, you will always find someone here to help you"

With the Encore version of SH3 when I got the option to browse and change the default installation path it would not allow me to make my change and came up with an installation error.

I wanted D:\Games\Ubisoft\Silent HunterIII but it would only allow me to install in C:\Ubisoft\Program files (x86)\Ubisoft\Silent HunterIII

Luckily both my C and D drives are both SSD's

GWX v3.0 installed ok but I notice it installs an older version of JSGME.

Thanks for the welcome.

If the game is as good as the manual shows I can see why after all these years why it has such a cult following.

Did you try installing as administrator, or just as user?

The Encore version will not let you make any changes to the path.

Will only install in the default installation.

When you click on the browse key you get an install error number.

As I have not run this Encore game yet I am now also wondering as Encore is a Canadian production whether it will recognise a QWERTY keyboard.

I have been reading old Subsim postings regarding the Dvd disc ESS632.

Dvd's that are Black and White are supposed to be SF free and version 1.4b

Dvd's that are Black and Silver have SF.

I have had a reply back from an Ebay seller who has a Black and White dvd
so have bought it and will delve in to its properties when it arrives.

Just received my SH3 dvd today from an Ebay seller.

I sent questions through Ebay to about 8 sellers to make sure I got the right dvd.

As previously discussed on other posts and a big thank you for that valuable information stating that the Black Bottom and White Top is the later SF free and version v1.4

The File Version is 8.2.160.0

Product Version 1.4.0000

Date Modified 18/08/2006

Unlike the Encore version this will allow you to install anywhere.
