Default Non-Profit Makes 3 year-old A Radical Prosthetic Hand

If you thought 3D printers were only good for making parts for homemade AK-47s, here is another and much better use for the technology:

http://uproxx.com/gammasquad/2014/09...hand-for-free/

It is interesting to note a prosthetic made by the usual "Big Pharma" sources costs US $40,000, bit the 3D printer version only cost US $50.00. It's kinda like when I was prescribed Tylenol by my doctor and the cost per pill was more than 10 times the cost for the "commercial" Tylenol the drugstore had on its nearby shelves. Methinks it is time for some serious reconsideration on the subject of unrestrained "Big Pharma" price gouging...

Atlas shrugged and then bent over...

It's not only big pharma that drives the greed train. The oil companies who descended from John D Rockefeller are just as bad, if not worse in their creation of an addicted society. The first mass produced automobiles that Henry Ford made were designed to run on alcohol. Rockefeller used his millions to persuade Ford to perpetuate a lie in order to sell his gasoline to the newly mobile masses. Even today's engines, except diesels, haven't radically changed and can still run pure high grade alcohol or gasoline. Alcohol can be distilled from almost any organic material and sold for around $0.66 a gallon. Compared to the rip off cost of petroleum fuel, I may just build my own still and run my vehicle on pure alcohol.

Distilling alcohol is a green endeavor too. It doesn't produce all the toxic waste that cracking crude oil does. Alcohol burns cleaner as well.
The truly odd part is that they've been adding ethanol to gas for years and still the price per gallon keeps rising.

I call Bovine Scatterings!

Very cool for Bubba, and kudos to the company that made the hand!

Could have lived without the sermons, though.

I thought that the original Model T engine could run on three different fuels 1.gasoline 2.kerosine 3.ethyl alcohol. I doubt it had much to do with Rockefeller and more to with the simple fact at that time period because of the increased popularity of gasoline it became the most cost effect fuel.

Another factor was Prohibition which came into effect in 1919. You still have problems with 100% ethanol guess how crops are grown on a commercial scale? By using large amounts of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides many of which are harmful and also happen to be produced using fossil fuels so it is not in fact all that green to produce ethanol. Not to mention the fact that you must also produce foods for human and animal consumption using the same plants that produce ethanol the full load of fossil fuels could not be placed on agriculture and also expect it to feed humanity. Ever seen Bentov's signature? Not to de rail the thread I'm just saying.

I think it's great that a non-profit organization fixed this wee one's handicap for a mere fraction of the cost and hopefully, these new technologies will continue to erode the control of these big greedy corporations.
Rockefeller spent billions, in today's terms, to lobby congress to pass the prohibition act. With all forms of alcohol out of the way, he became a billionaire selling his gasoline. In those days, becoming a billionaire was no small feat. Ethanol can be made from almost any form of biomass, not just certain crops like corn. Even our trash dumps produce methane that can be used as an energy source. Imagine if we emptied those holes and turned it all into ethanol. Big oil would go bust along with all the petty dictators who are propped up by it.
