A new cub in the pack

Hi, everyone!

I realized how much I've written so there's a 'tl;dr' section at the bottom

For those who are patient:

My first encounter with submarine games was a DOS game 'Wolfpack'. I was a preschool kid back then and had no idea what I was actually doing. But I do remember the joy of targeting a tanker, unleashing a salvo of torpedoes and watching them hit, explode and sink the ship
I also liked to use the deck gun a lot cause I understood changing the range and you could actually see the fired shell traveling! (and of course, splashing in the water or hitting the target)
The game also had a nice 'game over' animation where your periscope glass whould start cracking and everything turned red, you knew you were toast. I miss such a dramatic end to your sub in SH3...

Anyway, after that, I tried 'Jane's 688(I) Hunter/Killer', also as a kid, but that was way too complicated so I stopped playing it and never returned.

However, a couple of years ago, I remembered 'Wolfpack' and I was inspired by watching some submarine movies (still haven't watched Das Boot, don't shoot me ) but I also remembered an article about Silent Hunter (I think it was IV or V, can't remember) that I read in a PC magazine. I searched around the web and finally decided to give SH3 a go. And I sticked with it until this very day. I still haven't tried SH4 or SH5 or any other subsim for that matter.
I consider myself very new to this, still play with low realism (40% max) and I'm looking into the game's files and modding.

And that is the part I almost enjoy the most right now, the modding.
My motivation to come here and register was more about learning how to change game files and where do you have to look to tweak certain things. Sure, I can edit some things with S3D, but I'm eager to learn exactly what to look for and even learn how to edit the hardcoded stuff. I've seen pics of a mod here somewhere in which someone made each compartment of the type VII (and probably others as well) accessible and it blew my mind!

I immensely respect the work all of the guys did on all mods, supermods, graphic mods etc. and I would like to learn from them and be able to make such a mod myself, no matter how much time is needed.

I also hope to be an active member, although I don't tend to post and comment. You're probably shocked now because of this loooong intro, but honestly it takes a lot of effort from me to become active. I feel more comfortable learning passively from others, but I will try!

tl;dr: First game 'Wolfpack' as a kid, then 'Jane's 688(I) Hunter/Killer' which I didn't understand at all, then years later - SH3 which I play exclusively. Into modding and eager to learn more about it.

Well, that's it from me for now xD
Oh, and if you're interested in anything more about me, just ask
