Default sonar upgrade

I suppose this has been suggested before, but if not:

In my opinion, the sonar operator in SH3 is way better than in SH4. Is there any way to transfer the sonar files to SH4 to upgrade the sonar operator?

What mods are you using?

Most of the mega-mods improve this aspect of the game to some extent. Beyond that, I doubt there is very much that can be done.

Thanks for the reply, I am just using some aftermarket sound effects and the 360 degree bearing mod.

For those who like to man the guns, be the sonar man, the radar man and empty the garbage it might not be too bad, but for me, I just want to be the captain and it would be helpful if the sonar man could do his job.

I usually will just let the sound man do his thing until he detects something or I have some reason to check up on him.

You shouldn't expect too much, though. I know many SH3 players expect to detect Allied convoys over the horizon, but USN sound gear wasn't that good, especially, early in the war. Most USN initial detections were either visual or RADAR. Possibly, this was partly due to the fact that Allied convoys were often very large, and 50+ ships will inevitably make more noise than 2 or 3.

Thanks for the suggestions. All I really want is a sound man like the one in SH3 which can track the nearest warship so I can get some warning if an escort is coming too close.

There is a "contact report" and a "follow nearest contact" button in the sonar station.
