Default Led Zepplin Involved In Another Copyright Lawsuit

I fond this a bit interesting; Led Zep has a reputation for having "borrowed" freely to create some of their biggest hits. This borrowing has resulted in a rather large number of lawsuits and rewriting of song credits initially given to Page, Plant or other member of the band:

I really have a bit of a distaste for "Stairway" due to the fact a former Los Angeles rock radio station had the habit of playing the song once an hour for years until the station finally went to a "slow jazz" format. The only other time I have been in the state of mind to dislike a band/song was, in recent years, when a local "classic rock" station had a General Manager who was a huge fan of the band Rush. He basically required the playing of at least 1 Rush song per hour. I was never a big fan of the band to begin with and now can not bear to hear any of their numbers...

I must confess their rationalizations had a certain cynical logic to them. If we hadn't plagiarized these tunes, they would be more obscure than they already are.

Part one of the vid, search out the rest if interested, these guys figured this out 8 years ago. The upload is from 4 years ago, but I can tell you the clips are at least 8 years old, they addressed this on this mornings show. Warning, they are on satellite radio, so they do cuss, don't say I didn't warn ya.

Led Zep, overrated crap, the Carlos Mencia of Rock music.

The knowledge of Led Zep plagiarizing material has been known since at least the mid 70s. These guys are rather late to the party in their revelations. I even recall hearing Willie Dixon discussing his run-in with Zep on local radio back in the mid to late 80's...

What is appalling is the sheer gall of Zep in just trying to pass off other's work as their own. Other bands (Stone, Cream, Beatles, etc.) often went out of their way to make sure it was known where some of their songs or covers came from; with Zep its like pulling teeth...

I was just sharing when I first heard it, the guys in the clip I posted play them ( the songs) side by side.

It just ruined the aura in my mind, greatest rock band ever, and all the overhype, Robert Plant mock sex moaning in every song, with his tight leather pants with a gym sock stuffed down the front, we get it, you want us to think you got a huge hog, too bad your hog (socks) is not a songwriter.

Stairway was always 1 or 2 on the New Years list the radio does.I never ever got why they were so hot. Forget the tight pants and the gym sock he stuffed in the front of it (even to this day, he did it with that Krause lady too), . Just turned from legend to chump IMHO.

These guys get praise and buttlappings while original bands like Rainbow, Sabbath, Priest, etc got second fiddle.

I for one am happy to see sockboy exposed.

I'm more concerned that anyone, other than a female groupie, would be paying attention to Bobby's cod piece.
They were still technically proficient at making the music regardless of who wrote it. After all every pop song of the last four decades can be played with only four chords. There's bound to be some overlap.

No disputing where much of their stuff came from and undoubtedly, due credit should have been given, some royalties even but history will always show who made a success of the material and a small bit of sour grapes is in being here.

Took some over forty years to come out of the shadows.

Every time I hear a Rush song I see in my head the Spinal Tap scene where that midget of whatever dances around mini-Stonehenge.

No, no.. that's Geddy Lee...

It is true most of pop music can be played with four chords. Back in the late 60s, there was a local LA band called The Knack (not the "My Sharona group) and part of their act was to go through a whole blizzard of songs in G just using four chords. They also had a segment where they did impressions of Top 40 rock groups of the time...

The question of how long it took to make the claim and file the lawsuit is a tricky one: often the party who has been damaged cannot afford to hire adequate legal representation to pursue their claim. Add to this the tactics used by the record companies at the time (late 60s to 80s) of basically throwing every legal obstacle in the way of the claim and it really becomes daunting. The artist may suffer a loss of royalties and legal damages but the record companies also might take a hit because they very often have a stake in the publishing and copyright royalties and are thereby co-liable. They have very strong law firms on retainer and will simply bury any claims with very expensive legal maneuvers, court filings, and other paper work the claimant cannot afford...

There is also a great deal of intimidation: record companies will often "blacklist" artists, composers, and others who rock the boat. This will spread not only from the originally claimed against company, but throughout the rest of the industry; you simply are tagged as "difficult", "uncooperative", or a "liability" when all you did is stand up for your rights and proper credit due. The companies will also often go to the extent of wooing the lawyer(s) representing the claimant by hinting there could be the chance of working for the company on legal matter in the future if they get their client, the claimant, to settle or drop the claim. This happens far more often than you would expect. Here, in Hollywood, there is a saying in the music world that if you are dealing with the record companies, you best hire a lawyer and then hire a second lawyer to watch the first one you hired...

I came across this in Wikipedia:

Is that is becouse it may have more than 3 chords and yet seven notes?

What ever make you clap , wave your dick , shake your butt, sad or happy.

LZ hmmm...not great fan of this band but they have well deserved place in the history.
The band's music still does its magick till now.
Stairway to Heaven is not their only song...LZ was not one song band.

Its the same old entertainment industry song and dance of stirring up controversy to sell more tickets or 50 year old music.
