Default Is there a mac os copy of sh3 available?

I have a good mate of mine who watched me play the torpedo training exam so he could get an idea of what the game was like and I think he fell in love with it. He immediately said after the first drone went to the briny deep "I have to have that game!" The problem we have is he has an apple mac with mac os. I dont know his system spec but im assuming its powerful enough. My questions:
Where could he purchase a mac os compatible copy from if one exists?
If he cant purchase a mac os compatible copy how could he get a purchased standard v1.4b copy to work on his os if thats possible? Depending on the answer I will of course point him in the direction of this forum and get him to buy it through your site.

The best way would be a windows installation via bootcamp:

- apple has well coded driver for it´s hardware
- you are able to use the full power of the machine without waisting some power for virtual machine
- SH3 can be installed as in the description of any megamod ask for

So your friend should check his version of bootcamp, buy a windows version (supported by his bootcamp) and than buy a copy of SH3 (i would prefer a non-steam-version).

After installing windows, SH3 should be installed and patched (1.4) and you´re ready to install any megamod you like.

I bought my copy of SH3 from Ubisoft.com
Online, data transferred, cost me 10$ CAD.
I would check the Ubisoft website first, it's still probably the best place.

No it can not run on OSx. Best way to play is to put a windows partition on.
Depending on how old/what model your mac is it should play. I have SH3 working with MEP4.3 and several other heavy mods on my mid 2012 model macbook pro 13".

I will not bore everyone with tech details but Ubi would have to release the SDK for SH3 for there to be any other OS type compatibility to come out.

So far from what I have read is that it is possible but I need a legal copy of windows which isn't possible for us. Two reasons why, we are both broke and if possible I try not to line Bill Gates pockets (greedy so and so has dropped xp) so I had a look for more solutions and have also found an emulator type software called crossover from www.codeweavers.com. Im not overly sure how legal this software is as it doesn't require a windows os cd to allow silent hunter 3 to work. Its a considerably cheaper option at 38 pounds. It also has documented evidence from user stats that sh3 works perfectly on a mac with this software installed. I just need to try it and I will let you all know. Im hoping this post will be useful to another market of gamers out there if it all works out.

Ive havent tried crossover but what I have tried is the freeware version called winebottler. Ive managed to get the loading screen to run to 80% but it then freezes and crashes. We are trying parallels next with win xp. We have been forced to spend a bit of money. My friend begrudges paying it out but he has made it his mission to get the game working.

So you have a WIN XP DVD? Then i would ask you to give bootcamp a try. Because you can use the full power of your rig for SH3 instead a lot of power for a virtuell rig and inside SH3.
Apple has nearly perfect drivers for its hardware to use with bootcamp. I had a MacBookPro in 2007 and the rig was faster as other similar rigs from Acer, Sony and so on - with same cpu, chipset and grafik.
