Just a quick question out of curiosity really, running commander and gwx, in my first boat, a typeII I did 10 missions and did not see a single enemy aircraft, new boat is a VIIB and in my first mission I have had aircraft every daylight run so far. Is this scripted or random?

I can't say for sure but most likely the GWX creators would have scripted air cover to reflect the historical record as best as possible. In the early part of the war, air cover was probably spotty at best. Later it became the great equalizer in the Battle of the Atlantic. In my current career and patrol I just crossed the Bay of Biscay in November 1943 in my Type XIB. Without radar warning I would have been sunk five times. Later they bomb you as you are leaving port.
Why do I play this game? ![]()

On my first patrol (01.08.39) in wilhelmshaven (2nd flotilla) there are always two friendly fighter planes passing me on my right.
I know that this always happens cause I was testing crash to desktop issues, means i was starting the career several times. Maybe I see such planes only because I run IABL's Merchant Fleet Mod and WB's USAM ?? I had a plane sighting once so far north/western area of england close to it's coast in september. |

Hi folks,
thanks for the replies, it was just something I was wondering, I do have friendly aircraft fly overhead on leaving port, but didn't get any enemy planes along british coast in my typeII but similar positions I am getting aircraft in my VIIB, both were similar times in war because I have started from 39 again with my new career. |

What is your TC settings. On higher TC more then 128, you may not be able to spot the aircraft at all or spot it too late

Love the aircraft settings in GWX, especially later in the war
![]() It really adds to the game and the strategy you use to survive. There is a reason there was a section entitled " Above us Hell " in Iron Coffins. ![]() |

I know about the risk of high tc's, spotting them has not been a problem and as its still 39 they are no problem to avoid, I have had careers into 43 and it gets alot harder, I remember having to work hard to get to deep water from the atlantic coast bases.
Im just curious about no enemy planes when in my type II vs several already on first mission in VIIB. Iron Coffins, yes I enjoyed reading that. |

You'll have much lighter air cover early in the war, and much heavier later in the war.
