I'm curious as to if anyone else is experiencing an excess of dud torpedoes. I'm currently attempting to finish up British Coastal Waters. Just attempted to take out two tankers and all four torpedoes i launched (two each) were duds...all back to back. The last mission i I had a 50% failure rate on the torpedoes. These are the steam ones, not the electric ones.
At the begining of this mission i even spent extra poitns to improve maintenance which is supposed to reduce dud torpedoes. Getting beyond annoyed with trucking across the North Sea, sneaking into a harbor, and then taking out only 1 ship because i have a 50%+ torpedo failure rate. |

For what its worth, I did some reading and it looks like (in reality) there was some serious quality control issues with early German torpedoes. Especially in regards to the magnetic influence detonators. Does anyone if those realities have been accurately modeled into the game or TDWs patcher?

Thanks for the clarification. I'll have to start using impact detonators instead of the magnetic influence.

From what I've heard, you can have a better chance of success if the torpedoes hit the hull at a 90 degree angle... That's how I usually set up my attack, but I don't play with duds. However, I will try to look into this.

Don't feel bad, I haven't had one explode in 10. Very close, if not 90 degree angle attack as well.
