Actually it seems to be normal procedure there. The other ships are beached in the same fashion.

It is, they operated similarly at a marine scrapyard in Kaohsiung (Taiwan) when I was there.

They pull the anchor chain inland, connect it to a winch and pull the ship inshore cutting each section clean off as it is free of the waterline.
