Default Real Ship Names

Hi folks,

I was wondering if there was a mod that included all the names for ships in the MFM mod? I have the lastest download of the ship names but it doesn't include the neutral ships, the ones in the mfm with x at the end of their name. Also i noticed that the ships in MFM are all enemy. I'm in 1940 and even Brazilian ships show a red icon when Brazil is still a neutral country.

I didn't do neutral ships because the are assigned randomly, which means that names will not be applied to the correct times or places. Ships in the 'A' and 'B' categories are assigned names from the opposite sides of the Atlantic, 'A' being all North and South American ships, which don't enter the war until 1942. If the 'X' category is assigned names they would be generic, which would negate the reason I started the Ship Names mod in the first place, namely that I was tired of seeing names like SS President Jefferson (alternately a 7000-ton C-2 and a 14,000-ton liner) assigned to a little 1200-ton British coastal tanker in 1939. If I put names in the neutral category that would happen all over again.

It's also hard for me to address complaints about ship names applied to MFM as I can't check on those, since my computer won't run that mod and I've never seen it in action.

As to all ships in the MFM being enemy, you'll have to talk to IABL. I only supply names for SH3 Commander.

Quite right. There really is no way to assign correct names to the "X" ships of the MFM, which are intended to represent several neutral nations that may or may not be trading with the enemy. Paint schemes for vessel M01X, for example, could represent a Belgian freighter, a Norwegian freighter, a Spanish freighter, etc. Due to the limitations of SH3 and SH3 Commander there is just no feasible way to make sure that the right names are matched to the right paint schemes...in other words, we'd end up with Spanish ships that had Norwegian names.

Regarding all MFM ships being enemy, you probably just tend to sail close to enemy coastlines - thus, all of the nearest ship spawn points will tend to generate enemy ships. I have noticed that many mods' campaign layers don't do a good job of providing diverse shipping nationalities in the major shipping lanes. As long as there are entries for generic neutrals, there is a chance that the game will generate an MFM "X" ship that is truly neutral.

I just thought of something else: The only time Commander actually generates a name for a ship is when you sink it.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING SINKING NEUTRAL SHIPS???
