On occasional patrols I have issues with my fuel consumption for some reason I get only about half the endurance as usual for the same speed as other patrols, I hadn't noticed it before but it has appeared a few times on patrol, I got half way to the US east coast and I had used 50% of my fuel where usually I would of hardly scratched the surface.
Really strange anybody ever had the same problem ? Regards Eastwa |

I'm not aware of the Steibler patch or its intended function but in GWX the most economical speed is 1/3 ahead and you should also have Milch Cows in historically accurate positions and dates.

Was weather an issue? Plowing through heavy seas in bad weather can dramatically increase your fuel consumption. From my personal observation, this seems to definitely be modeled in the game.

I encountered the same consumption problem travelling in good weather without rough sea.I also use "malfunctions" in SH3 Commander. If it is a leak why it doesn't show in the damage screen,so as to be repaired?

7 - 8 knots will get you there and back - virtually anywhere on the map ( taking into account u boat type, weather conditions and damage etc..)

Because there is no visible leak that you can find and repair. AFAIK, SH3 Commander sabotage/malfunction damage is not repairable while underway. Maybe you got some contaminated fuel. Or maybe there is a small leak that gives no slick that you can see and which is in an inaccessible location on the external tank. Not everything outside the pressure hull is accessible while under way. Maybe there is a fuel pickup line that is plugged. Sabotage/malfunction damage is not integrated into the game engine damage and repair system. You have to find imaginative explanations for the performance deficiencies you observe. If you find that troubling or unsatisfactory, just turn Sabotage/malfunctions off.

There's this guy on another forum I frequent that was in the Navy. He is also a great writer. He has told some fantastic stories.
One was how they convinced a deck officer upon refueling from a tanker that he needed to get the ships credit card to pay for the fuel. There's another fantastic story of how he used to flop down on a big "bean bag chair" made up of old rags to read comic books. One day he got to looking at the rags and his comic book and decided to make up his own superhero costume. He became "Captain Neutron" complete with mask and a big N on his chest. He stormed into the officer's wardroom yelling "I claim this ship for Captain Neutron" or some such and ran out the opposite door to disappear. Shortly thereafter the "repel intruders" alarm went off and everything went ape ****. He hid the costume in a torpedo tube. Some time later someone was doing torpedo firing drills and launched Captain Neutron's costume into the bay. OK, had to go find the thread. Here you go.
