Default Convoy routes hard coded on background Map

Hi all

Just reinstalled SH3 after my pc died ,onto my new windows 8 pc.
All is fine so far as I put my old mod list into gwx

I remember that the last time I played, some time ago, the nav map had lines showing convoy routes (not the pull down one in the nav screen, but the background one) on it and it was handy for plotting routes as you could plot along the lines to get more ship sightings.

Is there a mod for this map dies anyone know?

Cheers

Never heard of anything like that. I run GWX and I've only ever seen the convoy routes on the pull down map. That would be nice though to have something where I can see if I'm in good hunting waters or not.

How did you get this before?

It must have been a mod as it is not in GWX. Which mod I do not know as I have not run across it before.

(btw the pull down one in GWX is the same one as the stock one.)

Historically wouldn't the Nav map be kept clean and used only for plots?

I mean, having all the shipping lines on your Nav map would kind of clutter it I would think.

What would be nice is if there was a hotkey to superimpose a transparent image of the lanes over the Nav map (or transparent Nav map with the lanes underneath). That would probably be similar to the captain putting a transparent layover on his map to assist with the grid points. I know I've seen it in sub movies where the skipper is flipping through various pages of clear map sheets.

Must have been a mod then, cannot remember which it was though. The lines were grey or dirty white that were only visible at certain zoom level.
Ahh we'll not to worry, still have the pull down but the other one was handy for plotting along an exact shipping route!

Thanks for the input guys

John

The mod is named SH3MapConvoy - by Sheppard from 2005

His stardestroyer.net site hosting the link is down and even Maik has no Sheppard folder.
The unknown modder folder doesn't list it either.

And here at subsim the mod isn't available.

Maybe someone still has it on his harddrive - or we have to make a new one.

Could http://www.silenthuntermods.com/foru...php?topic=65.0 be the same mod?

Thanks to Carotio, who did not write the mod (I stand corrected), and to GreyBeard , who pointed us to it.

The download link works. I just installed it on my copy of SH3 with GWX. Be sure to make a back-up of the default 4320_2160.raw file before overwriting it with the modded file.

The download has a single .raw file (drill down through the unzipped sub-directories) that goes into the SilentHunterIII/ data/Terrain/Maps/Map1 subdirectory. It has the same file name as the default, 4320_2160.raw

The mod works with both new and existing career files (when starting in port). I did not test it with an in-progress (at sea) saved career mission file.

The NAV MAP opens exactly like the default map at a scale of 0 - 125 KM (in the lower left of your map). The overlay itself does not appear until you zoom out 4 times to a scale of 0 - 1750 KM or larger.

Enjoy.

Ony problem with Carotio's mod?
A totally lacking credit listing to original modders.
He did NOT create nor write the original mod!

So one could say he merely repackaged the mod under his name.

I tried this with an overlay map showing mines but gave up as I could never get the scale correct...but it can be done...just not by me it would seem

Here is a link to the thread showing my attemps if you are intertested:

When I get the chance, I'll reupload my original mod for convoy lanes; Hopefully I should still have it around.

Checked my hard drive -- no sign of the convoy map.

Hopefully I might still have it saved on a DVD; but to be honest, it was just a quick and dirty edit that I didn't give much thought to.
