Default CNN: Random killings spark laments, but reality shows long slide in crime rate

I'm surprised (to say the very least) that CNN just put this article up as their front page headline news story.

Random killings spark laments, but reality shows long slide in crime rate
http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/23/justic...html?hpt=hp_t1

Of course the headline is " 'What the hell is going on!?'

For a media outlet that is so staunchly anti second amendment, this doesn't play well into their agenda. Although, they did picture every freaking mass shooting over the last couple decades as part of the article. So I'm really scratching my head on this one.

Its the 24 hour news cycle man, every crime just feels like it was committed down the street. Hell, I would probably hear about crime committed on the other side of the world at the same time as if it was committed down the street.

Of course it does. If perception doesn't match reality then it weakens the call of OMG I need a gun for the massive increasing threat from zombie home invasion crackhead mugger burglar rapists on every street, by highlighting the reality.

And in 2011, Gallup found that 68% of Americans believed crime was getting worse, despite the reality of declining crime rates nationwide.
68%?
Proof positive that the propaganda machine is working.

I never trust the methods used to get percentages when it comes to politics.

My own perception of crime rate, hasn't changed much from 1992 when I graduated high school and joined the service. I did notice there seemed to less gangs and less shootings over the years, but my perception on the overall danger level of being a victim hadn't changed much. I've always watched who's around me, and what they are wearing out of habit. To this day, If a see certain people, or certain clothing being worn, I immediately get on edge.
