Default Win 7 problems=CTD

Yes, another win 7 problem thread! I miss my XP!
Well, I installed the game (new copy bought on amazon, already 1.4 patched and no needing the dvd to play) in the drive I have for the games. Installed GWX, than my mods list. Patched and do what is need to have h.sie and stieblers mods running.
The game loads fine, then I choose a single mission, it loads good, but its CTD instead of loading the game.
I did the changes to the cfg files so that the resolution is not above 1024x768 (and it's the same resolution I have), but no effect. Did the same with the mods, just gwx and got the same problem.
Advices please!

Prior to installation did you uninstall a previous installation, delete the SH3 folder, run a registry clean and if possible, install the game into D drive?

Yes, and then my pc was formated, since I had a nasty virus. So I think that if anything was left on the registry could not resist that!
I did install the game on a D drive. But I asked on a previous thread if I could that on Win 7 and the answer was affirmative.

I originally installed on Cx86 when changing to the W7 OS but one or two niggles with the game started creeping in so I installed to my secondary drive D and have not experienced any problems since.

Before you add mods, test the game for normal functionality. And while adding mods, test again at every step. The game isn't very forthcomming with suggestions where it may have gone wrong. (there are no log-files) So you need to make sure it is all right, and not go on blind belief.

I didn't install the directx version that came with the disk, could be do to this? I had problems also with SH4, but after re-installing and installing the directx that comes with the game, now is working fine!
