Save While Submerged

Does saving while submerged cause the program to crash? This has happened to me several times.

Yes it does. You can get away with it once in a while but, it will catch up with you sooner or later.

I think it was always safest to save while surfaced and with no other ships in contact.

Which means if you know that something was in your vicinity lately, you should move away atleast 35 km from it's current probable location. If you know it's last position, course and speed, move 35 km away from that.

I have already saved several times during convoy battles when I was submerged and a few hundred meters from enemy ships and never experienced a crash. The only odd thing that happens when saving near land is the save name appears in the last line of the loading screen next time. (i.e. Monthly losses: 2 U-boats for 123,453 to<save name>)

So that's why that happens! I always wondered.

Ramdomiser had some tips for saving while submerged here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=200866 Check post #3.
