Holes are just superficial and not indicative of actual damage done. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

not all ships have the damage files that tell it when and where to show damages so it depends on each individual ship if it will show damage or not. its a total crap shoot as to what you will or wont see and to go through the files for each and every ship to correct it would be a massive undertaking

because of this some ships you cant damage the engines or stearing so you can hit the rear with two or three torps and it still steams away under power so always spread your torps out to hit different spots each time.

It is the same when your running Operation Monsoon. Some of the original ships will have holes, mostly warships, but there are plenty of merchants and tankers that never show the damage. I like to see it, simply for satisfaction. It is especially satisfying when you have a type VII U-Boat with only three forward tubes, two in reserve and no deck gun. Talk about make sure your shots count.

Type II you mean not Type VII.

Anyway have you even seen a photo taken by any WWII sub in which you can see holes especially circular ones in a target? Nope the reality is typically they where never seen by the crew of the sub and even if they where they would have been gashes in the steel not holes. The torpedo explosion actually forced sections of hull inwards and ripped along the seams of sections of steel caused by the explosive forces and the increased water pressure from the warhead explosion.

The satisfaction for me is watching a vessel I hit sink.
