In some places in Bavaria the water already is higher than during the previous record century flood from 2002. In several regions in South-East Germany, it is the third big flood in ten years. In Passau the water is reported to mark higher standing than ever before in all recorded flood history of the city. In other media earlier this morning it was reported that over night, several dams had to be given up, and broke. Meteorologists say there is little sign that the devastating rains will stop soon. The pressure low sucking in all that moisture from the Mediterranean and raining it off over Central Europe, is relatively stationary. for the forseeable time it seems things will continue to worsen.

I'm not even close to any of the affected regions.
Passau just reports the water now is higher than anytime since 1501.

We should stop calling these things century floods. It seems they become a frequent occasion.

I'm glad with all those tornadoes, floods, melting glaciers and the ice cap vanishing, this all is not due to a changing climate.
Now where's this popcorn smiley ? ![]() |

It'S okay to call them that. Just do like Hollywood. add a Roman II, III, and IV to it, and if there is one year in between where it is not as bad, you just call it a prequel.

Here in Calgary back in 1995, we received a one-in-100 yr flood event. Then in 2005, we were hit with a one-in-200 yr event. They showed some video of Fish Creek that flows through the park of the same name. It was unbelievable. A quiet small creek had transformed into a raging river that took out the 6 or 7 small bridges that I had biked across a few weeks before this all happened.

And my vacation plans just got flushed away with the water.....
We were thinking of going to Prague, but now with the flooding, I have no idea. |
