French right politician Marine Le Pen (I am no fan of her nor do I know much about the French right, so do not speculate about my assumed sympathy or antipathy for them) sees her immunity suspended to open the path for criminal investigations against her that already run since 2011, after she complained about Muslims using public streets for prayer and comparing it to an occupation of French territory.

In France, however, there is a law in place since 2011 that bans praying on public places and in public streets.

It is also a cheap way to get rid of an unwanted annoyance factor in the EU parliament. If they would be serious on that, however, they would need to ban the whole EU parliament, of course, this useless nuthouse of a modern operetta.

It is just the latest chapter in a series of examples from recent years that saw Austrian, French, Dutch, Swiss and Danish (fill in if I missed one) journalists, publicists and diplomats being tried at court for charges of discrimination and/or hate speech, which is the modern terminology for criticism of Islam.

Death for all Islamophobes! Islam means peace, don't you know it, stupid?! Either you like it, or you are a sick criminal pervert.

P.S. Correction: It is a parliament committee that secretly voted for the lift, by - quoted - "overwhelming majority". Parliament must still approve.

Not sure if its because o the critics itself or the atmosphere she tried to create around this issues.
You know.... the whole package.
She plays it in very stupid way and since France is stuck with millions of Muslims that will not go anywhere and need to be absorbed one way or another she has no solution to the problem...unless we talk about the final solution.

Bottom line is she wants cheap votes.
I say criticism is good and i agree with a lot of thing said but hate this cheap and possibly dangerous politics.

I was unaware that you can be criminally prosecuted in france for "inciting racism". How utterly absurd and very subjective. People's definition of "racism" is getting more and more touchy, it seems like a very ambiguous law prone to opinion. In addition is seems that "minorities" (who arent actually in the minority anymore in terms of population) are getting ALOT more leniency when it comes to being called a racist or being acknowledged for racist tendencies. Any law subject to that much opinion should be scrapped, just like the hate crimes here in the U.S. If a man commits a crime, in the eyes of the law what matter is it of his skin color.

Here's an example from Denmark

A group of Muslim women had started a protest against the Danish supermarkets (DS) by the call for a boycott of their stores. The reason for this protest was that a Muslim woman was denied work because she refused to remove her headgear

The day before yesterday gave DS after their demands and now Muslim women may wear their headgear

Note it ONLY applies to Muslims. Jews, Sikhs and other religions that also, according to their religion, have to wear their e.g skullcap or turban should unfortunately seek another job or be without if they want to work at DS

I do not know if they have special laws for that in France, this charge as well as the others I loosely mentioned are basing on new EU-legislation - you can be charged in every country of the EU for that, not just France. However, in Germany we also still have a socalled blasphemy paragraph. It existed since 1872 and was revamped in 1969. It means that

a penalty of up to three years in prison or a fine can be handed down to anyone who "publically, or via the dissemination of writings, slanders the religious confession of another person" - if and only if this is done in a way that "is meant to disturb the peace."

10 people were punished since 1969 by basing on this §166. Many more were tried. Catholic church is heavily lobbying to get the condition of "disturbing the public peace" removed and turn the law into a very dangerous club to silence critics of the Catholic church. They have support in almost all parties in parliament, surprisingly - or not - especially amongst the Green (enforcing multi-culti and banning criticism of foreign rites, cultures and ideologies goes hand in hand, doesn't it).

The EU legislation formally does not base on charges being risen against you over "hate speech", but by equaling criticism of religion with "discrimination" and charging you over that instead. This makes it very handy for Muslim activists.

Christians or Jews or Buddhists or Hindus and other religious clubs so far have not used this law to silence their critics, as far as I know. It's always Muslims, apparently. The law was designed after serious pressure and lobbying by Saudi Arabia and Turkey. As is known, comparable laws that even go further are tried to be boxed through at the UN by the Muslim block there.

Like father like daughter, good old dumb nazi le pen was also convicted many times for incitement to racial hatred for his brainless comments about jews and muslims.
