Hey Guys
![]() So i am quite new to Subsims and the Silent Hunter Franchise, i have only played SH5 and have only been playing it a few weeks. I am always reading online about how SH3 is such an awesome game and was thinking of giving it a try ![]() Just wanted to ask a couple of questions if possible please. 1, Will i find it hard to adapt coming from only plaing SH5? or are they quite similar, also how is the gameplay compared to SH5? 2, I was thinking of downloading the game from Steam is there any reason not to download from Steam from a modding point of view?, reason i ask is there are some SH5 mods you can't use if you have the steam version and don't want to make that mistake. Thanks all ![]() |

I always recommend getting the disc, but that's my personal preference. You can download it from Amazon for a good price, and if you go there through the link at the top right of the page Subsim will get a small cut, at no extra cost to you.
As for gameplay, you have the choice of the four main types of u-boats (II, VII, IX and XXI) and a completely random campaign that will take you all the way through the war. You will also have a full crew who can be shuffled to different stations, wounded and killed. There are four major supermods that improve the game in different ways, and there is SH3 Commander, which gives a randomized database of 1.7 billion crew names and gives a name, cargo load and crew number to every ship you sink. As far as adapting goes, there are differences but I think you'll find that SH3 is easier to learn.

Hi guys,
SH3 is an older title that won't run on modern Win 7 and 8 systems. It won't run because of the changes. I did have it run on Vista.

Hey Guys
![]() Thanks for the reply's , i was unable to get a download from Amazon as im from the UK and i can't see this option at the checkout. So after doing a little research it seems that the steam version of SH3 has no issues when it comes to modding as far as i can see ![]() So i went ahead and downloaded SH3 from Steam, for £6.99 seems like a good deal to me. To my surprise the game worked fine after the steam download and i'm running Win 7 64 bit ![]() I really thought id have to change some settings or even change my desktop resolution but no all good. I have only tried the training missions so far and have not installed any mods....yet but so far so good. Manual Targeting seems a little different from SH5 but i will do a little research on that. Going to try the campaign later stock version, then maybe add a mod or two ![]() |
