Default Nooooooo!

Hi guys,

I was just on patrol (jan. 1941) and it is one of my most succesfull patrols ever. I sank a few freighters, a tanker and I sneeked in the enemy port of Freetown where I sank 2 more freighters and 1 large passengership. Upon existing the port I saved and shortly after that I got blown away by deptcharges. No problem, I just reload.... I thoughed..... But every time it chrases to desktop without any error or everything. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I use GWX 3 and SH3 Commander.

Did you save underwater?
Did you save near land or 50 Kms near any unit?

If yes , well this a known bug in SH3.
Avoid saving under the above conditions.

It is most probable that this patrol has been wasted!

Try reloading the career at the beginning of this patrol , while still in base and replay it.
Of course it will not be same.

It's dead, Jim.

When a saved game CTDs on reload, I have never heard of any way to recover it. True for SH3, SH4, and SH5.

EDIT: Allow me to amend that: Did you make any changes to the mod load after saving and before reloading. If you did, you may be able to salvage the saved game by returning to the exact original mod load and restarting the saved game.

If this does not work, or does not apply, chalk it up to a dream your Kaleun had. (AKA, the Dallas effect.)

I truly believe this is a wives tale, these crashes are due to something technical in game...most likely memory or mod conflict. I have saved in all kinds of conditions, in the middle of a battle, and even at depths of 150 meters and the game does not generate a corrupt save.

The most likely culprit is mod, memory or campaign files

DvvW please post you complete mod list. Are you using the 4gb patch?

Back up your career right away, that way you can experiment with loading older saves and still have a good backup

Have you been damaged before your save?

When saving whilst submerged or within rendering range of anything you up the chances of a ctd...you can get away with it for years (as I have during extensive research and testing) but eventually you do experience a ctd.

ok, these mods, in themselves, are not usually associated with bad saves, and your not using a "mod soup" that would have pointed to some issues....

what kind of computer specs do you have? If your using a 64bit system you could try using the 4gb patch which will allow the use of more (memory) than the standard 2gb memory limit set by the original game.....

its hard to say...do you have commander set to roll back? Can you go back to an earlier save game (remember to back up your career first)

Ugh... I Only saved 1x during this patrol. I'm afraid I have to do it over again, at least I know that Freetown is packed with freighters and tankers

Remember to save often, and don't overwrite your saves until you are sure you will not need them again.

Typically, I just label mine "01", "02" etc, but maybe you could use dates and career name instead.

Mods installed shouldn't be problematic...I refer back to #7.

End of transmission.

Yup, I discovered that saving while underwater or saving while in the midst of a lot of ships (even a convoy!) can spell disaster for saves.

It's best to save only when surfaced and when you have no contacts.
