Well, have fun watching it... if you can. Personally I'd rather be tortured than watch it again.

Just started watching it, fairly cheesy so far but ah well, ill enjoy seeing the Drum on film.Wish Hollyweird would make a movie with the quality of saving private ryan but involving fleet boats in the PTO.

They won't make such a film if only a few enthusiasts watch it. Unless, of course, they add in the trademark Bay special effects and explosions. And in such case, we won't watch such a shallow film.

Either way, you can't win.

I don't think I can bring myself to watch it, cept maybe it will have some sound files to rob.

"September, 1944. Fresh from liberty on the island of Hawaii, Horatio Culpepper, Captain of the U.S.S. SEAVIPER - one of the Navy's diesel-electric submarines, receives an order from Vice Admiral Stallerman, along with top-secret information from President Roosevelt, to rescue a downed American airplane near Sumatra. The downed pilot, an American Navy airman, is rescued with two escaped prisoners-of-war (POW) from a nearby island. But the Japanese and Germans are also discovered to be on this island together, and the submarine's landing party needs to separate. They discover that the Germans have converted U-234, a mine laying U-Boat, into a long-range submarine. They also find that the Germans have transported a deadly cargo across the Pacific to deliver to the Japanese. Why then, is this cargo so important? Forced to return to the boat while the Captain stays behind, the Chief of the Boat, Chief Keenan, realizes that he must deal with unexpected changes in command. The Executive Officer, Roitman, suffers a head injury during a depth charge attack and is relieved of duty. His rival, another officer named Cutter, rises to command. A stuck torpedo, a flooded compartment, and structural damage to the boat from a Japanese destroyer all become life-threatening, and the boat's survival is in question. Under the direct order from the boat's Captain to maintain position and meet the landing party at a scheduled rendezvous time, Chief Keenan finds himself in a power struggle against Cutter, whose defiance of the Slipper's direct order threaten their survival. With only enough high-pressure air to ballast Seaviper to 100 feet, decreasing oxygen, and a Japanese destroyer in wait, will she be able to return to the and foil the enemy's plan before it's too late?"

Once had the thought that I should send Tom Hanks a copy of Thunder Below or something, only people I would be those behind Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, The Pacific.People behind Pearl Harbor, Red Tails, not so much. However, it is unlikely the book would ever make it to him.Ah, maybe we will luck up one day.

Okay I watched it, yes terrible movie, could have been palatable with a better plot and some more attention to detail. Also, I have seen better acting in a porno. Movie was just cheesy.I will give them effort for trying to make a WW II sub movie and using the USS Drum, just went wrong with some critical things.

Default The Tang?

It would be, in my opinion, pretty easy to sell the idea of making a movie about the USS Tang. I've read O'Kane's patrol reports, and they are action packed. Also the tragic loss of the boat would be a real good emotional hook. Nine survivors made it out, and O'kane's statement regarding the beatings they took after being picked up is especially heartfelt.

According to wikipedia there was a 1950's TV series called 'The Silent Service' that had an episode about USS Tang, unfortunately I can't find it on netflix or amazon, that would be great to see on DVD if it could be found.

As for a low budget direct to DVD movie with bad reviews, where you might actually have to enter a walmart to get it, I think I will pass.

Sorry, I just thought it funny that it would turn up as a reference. You see, I watched it on TV as a kid. Here's a hint of what it was like. The fun part was that most of the episodes had a closing scene with the actual captain in question.

I know there's a link that will let you see some of the episodes. I'll post back when I find it. Meanwhile here's an episode guide.

[edit] You can buy them here, but be prepared - they ain't cheap.

I agree, Tang's story would probably be an easier "sell" than some of the others as she was a "hot" boat on all her patrols if I recall correctly, plus the drama of her of ending, the POW experiences of her survivors.
