SHO Unuseable threads

Don't wish to be picky but there is a hell of a lot of threads that do not go anywhere. Its very annoying especially as this is a great forum seems untidy to me.
Thanks for all the other information its great

You are right. This is a discussion forum and sometimes threads are full of that, even to distraction from the original theme. However, like the internet itself, once it is out there...it stays.

Not only would it be hard to find someone willing to go through all the threads and conversations and "pick out" the ones that should be removed, but would that person have the right to delete them?

Unlike other forums, I have not found a lot of nastiness or rude flaming going on here. The members are all friendly and helpful, and there is a LOT of help here for those needing it.

The hobby is better for it.

I agree with what you say, but I think you will find that this is pretty common to all forums similar to this one, where communities get together for their particular gaming interest.
What starts off as a question or certain topic, can soon get side tracked into something completely irrelevant to the initial topic and end up more as a chat between a few members.

I have done it myself, wandered off thread, but sometimes this can lead to some advantage that may be helpful to someone else in the community, who happens to see what's been mentioned.

This forum is very helpful, especially for those who are new to Silent Hunter, be it 3, 4 or 5 and to those who are not as technically minded as
some of the people on here are.

Ok, you do get the odd nasty remark which can often be a bit off putting but there are moderators, who can quickly step in and deal with anything that can get out of hand or deal with something that was not called for.

On the whole the people on here are a great bunch of guys, very friendly and helpful and without forums such as these, Silent Hunter 3, 4, or 5 would not have the following it does have today.

From little acorns Mighty Oaks do grow.

I certainly have made use of these forums, which really have rekindled my interest in SH3 again, after a session with SH5. I like SH3 better, than SH5 for playing, but SH5 is better in the graphics department, but you can't play both games at once. I don't think I will be leaving SH3 for a long time, because I get lots of enjoyment from it and it's just that bit easier to handle than the more modern SH5.

I tend to read all threads posted on here, and respond to some of them if it takes my interest and sometimes I will start a thread if I am seeking some information or have something to say that might interest others.

Ok, I'm wandering again I think, so Rusty, Shut up, stop rambling and do something useful.

Ditto with Rusty Submarine's thoughts. I agree with your frustrations, especially after a few times spent trawling through pages of dead topics trying to find something you know's out there. Heaven knows I've started a few topics myself, asking one question which was answered straight away, then the thread died.

But I don't think there are any forums on the internet that aren't like that. And as forums go I think this one's pretty well-organised - eg. you can set the list of topics to cut off anything over 2 months old which keeps it nice and clear for me, and there is a decent team of active moderators who keep a close eye on a well-picked and small number of stickies.

What would you suggest to improve it?

(Damn this ambiguous form of communication - don't misread that last question as sarcasm or a sneering rhetorical question, interested to hear what you reckon).

Well said Gustav. I've been on a forum where the entire first page is stickies, that's not good. I've also been on one where whatever the OP posts it's gone to hell in a handcart by reply number four, that's not good either (EA, I'm looking at you ).

Sure, some topics get thrown here and there, but certainly no more than any other site - and at least we don't close a thread without a really good reason.

Well said all, and unlike most gaming company sponsored forums, the moderators here are all unpaid volunteers, who moderate in their own free time, out of love for the game.
