Default Silent Hunter 5 Start uUp

Hi,
just downloaded SH5, but found that i can't start it up, the opening video runs, no sound and it only takes up like a quarter of the screen with my desktop background in the rest. Also there is no tab in the task bar & it doesn't show up on the task manager and i cannot interact with it.
any idas please? i'm excited to play this game

I've got the same issue. Running it on Windows 8 64-bit, running through U-Play. Opening video runs -taking up 2/3rds of the screen, no sound. After the opening video ends, it busts back to UPlay saying 'thank you for playing SH5'. All-in-all a lame experience. Anyone know a solution to this issue? Part of me wants to forget that SH5 ever existed but the other part is curious and wants to try it with sober's mega mod...

Did you install the game to the default location and did you force an update to v1.2

C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\GU.exe

i5 3750k @ 3.7GHz
16GB Corsair RAM
Gibabyte Gefore GTX670
Windows 7 Home Premium
ASUS Sabertooth Z77

everythings up to date - driver wise
should be able to handle it no problem - but its a pain in the arse.
i bought it through steam - so its in the steam directory - does that matter? will i have to move it?

Raver5003 -

ran into this exact issue yesterday and I'm still not sure of the root cause. I fixed it by uninstalling the UBI game launcher from Control Panel/Programs and then reinstalling it. Once it installed and updated I was able to get the game to run full screen again.

Note that I am not running a Steam purchased copy (bought mine thru Amazon) and I have an install directory for the UBI game launcher.

Has a solution been found for this problem? I bought the game years ago and despite the updates it is still a pain in the ass when starting up. I never played the game for a second
