Default U-27 Kaleuns Picture Log. Carreer in Pictures.

MISSION 1: SHAKEDOWN
August 1938. Leaving port for BF 18. This is U-27's first mission. It feels that war is coming. So lets give this crew a proper shakedown.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Cruising the Channel. Bumped into a couple of Tommie destroyers. Exchanged waives and pleasantries. But it feels awkward. I have the feeling that we wont be able to cross the Channel so easily in the near future.

After some time patrolling our grid its time to test the hull's strength.
I sound the alarm and give the order to dive, ahead flank, depth 260m. My second in command stares at me trying to figure out if im kidding or something.

We dive deeper and deeper. Post the 200m mark, one of the helmsmen stares at me with disbelief. Im silent, not giving any orders to level the boat. I can feel the stress around me.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

At 225 we start taking damage. I order the boat to level and start its ascend for the surface. 225m is not much. But its enough

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

We reach close to 240m before starting to climb up again. So 240m it is. Emergency lighting on. Minor damages.

Ok boys. Back to base. You need to change diapers

MISSION 2

U-27 left its pen with orders to patrol BF grid BF 11. On September 3 and as my U-Boat was clearing the Channel, war broke out. I have gathered the crew in the Zentrale and made a heated speech in an effort to boost morale. I ordered Schnapps for all and read the BdU order to attack on the spot British vessels.

2 days later tower watch spotted a British Large Merchant : "Alaaaaaaarm" reverberated throught the sub. I climbed up and took the bino's from my second's hands.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I immediately order the Gunners to take position. Warning shot through the bow for the crew to abandon ship. I also notify my radioman to keep his ears open in case the Merchant reports our position. In such case, we will attack guns blazing.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

After 2 warning shots the Merchant continues its course on zig zag in an effort to hinder our attack. I wont spent a torpedo as calculations can be tricky. The radioman reports that the Merchant has sent an emergency message reporting the attack and our position. I lean over the tower and shout to the Gunners " Fire at will boys, take her down. Aim for waterline"

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The crew decides to abandon ship. We go closer and give them supplies as the Merchant dissapears under the waves

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The war started with a success. 8000 tons under our belt.
The crew cheers as I ration another round of schnapps.

Next days past without major events. We spent our days submerged even though Allied Air activity was almost zero. Our soundman picked up a merchant closing. I position the boat for the attack. Weather is brilliant, skies are clear. I decide to use our 88mm cannon as its a lonely tramp steamer. 1 Across the bow but she wont stop. So my gunners took her out

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Another 3,000 tons under our belt. I decide to continue our patrol on the surface as visibility is excellent. A lonely Pelagic Trawler is spotted. More gun practice for my boys. Those stubborn Tommies tried to evade but realised the futility and abandoned ship after the 4th round.

After 4 days, the weather turns for the worst as we now patrol the low AM grids. Visibility is very low so we spend most of our time below, listening for the sounds of screws. And after 6 days , a contact!! Taking meticulous note of the course and positioning some 400m from where merchant is supposed to pass. There she is. Calculations are basic as distance is close and she will pass fast. One eel leaving Tube 1

And a hit!!!

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

18,000 tons so far and we are still mid patrol. Happy Days. For how long will they last ?

Nice von Apist.
One mistake : The ship in the above photo is a tugboat not a pelagic trawler.

Correct pasted wrong picture! Got a tugboat in the same patrol as well.
