look at a tree...

stock SHIII is the base of the tree.
The big branches of the tree are the supermods,
The small branches on the big branches are the ,ods that can be used on every supermod.

combining two big branches is notttt such a good idea, unless you know exactly what you are doing, and have quite a bit of experience.

And the question: what is the best - ?
depends on your playing style. It is a question of taste : try all flavors and find out for yourself. Do not listen to others, but check your own opinion.

If you use this tool http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1869 you can manage separate installations of the game, and play them all until you decide which one you like best.
