I'm almost to 1942 and have yet to receive an upgraded sonar and what not. Is this normal?

The best web-search information I could turn up indicates that Nazi Germany did not implement sonar (active sound location) on any appreciable number of their U-boats at any time during the war. They did deploy excellent hydrophone (passive sound detection), but to judge by this reference, http://www.cdvandt.org/GHG1996.pdf, they were still deploying the GHG in 1942. It was apparently not until 1943 (same source) that the Balkon-Gerat (sorry, no umlaut) was deployed in any numbers. So you may just be getting the best the Kriegsmarine has to offer at the time.
I understand that SH3 offers an active sonar for U-boats at some point in time. (I don't know this. I have never played that game.) If so, then that would appear to be an historical inaccuracy which OM corrects. |
