Newby looking for help with SH4 or SH5 or both?

Forgive me since I am new here. I may be posting in the wrong area but seem to be lost. While I find this website a bit on the overwhelming side it is also extremely interesting. I am a very old former submariner (silver & gold dolphins), crewed on the George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ethan Allen. I have enjoyed playing Silent Hunter III until my old "puter give up the ghost and now I have a new fangled PC that is running Windows 7, 64 bit with lots of RAM and a much better video card.

I have found that my version of Silent Hunter III as it is does not run on 7.

I have been interested in picking up SH4 or SH5 and downloading the latest patches to get some of the bugs out that I have read so much about.

I can't seem to find any place that tells me if SH4/SH5 runs on Windows 7, 64 bit systems. I'm not sure the best place to obtain these games either. Can anyone please offer me suggestions/ideas on the best way to go?

That's strange, SH3 seems to run fine on Win 7 for me.

Anyway, you should be able to run SH4 (and SH5 if your specifications are high enough) on Windows 7 x64. To get the latest patch with SH4 you need to buy the U-Boat Missions expansion (or get both with the gold edition.)

I think if you click on the Amazon link at the top of the page and purchase either game from there, SubSim gets a small cut (helps keep the forums running.) Or you can buy from the Ubisoft online store or the Steam store (but i heard the Steam version has bugs.)

Both, Silent Hunter 4 plus Uboot Missions and Silent Hunter 5 are more expensive in Steam (at least in Germany). You will pay
10 Euro for SH4,
10 Euro for SH4 Addon and
15 Euro for SH 5 in Steam, so up to 30 Euro for everything

while in Amazon you are charged
10 Euro for SH4 Gold (so including Addon) or
5,50 EUro for SH4 Gold (Software Pyramide, not sure if available outside of Ger)
and 10 Euro for SH5
so 15-20 Euro for everyting.

I did not encounter any bugs in Steam Version of Silent Hunter 4 plus addon so far, but I'm only playing for like 2 weeks now.
