Default Subsim Poetry

To the younger generation, poetry is what you refer to as rap...

Who will go first.....

Buried Alive

Now that I'm dead, friends gathered round
The pastor speaking was finally found
He was a "good man" someone had said
but I only hear it, now that I'm dead

They all gather at my last place
They all walk by and stare at my face
"He looks so good" I know this is true
Dead that I am, I look better than you

Lying here getting dirt thrown in my face
as in life, even death's a disgrace
I watch them all and with a sigh
for them to hug, did I have to die

Marg hugs Bill, "Good to see you, dear"
"How long has it been,".... merely ten years
Ten years she cries "How can that be"
then kisses another, oh watch how she flees.

The farewells have all been said.
I guess I'm alone here, finally dead.
Back to your lives, wherever they be,
soon they will be looking at you,

not looking at me.

I was reading a Subsim thread one day,
When something came into my head. I must say,
It was something that made me think about life,
With its hope and its joy and its fear and its strife.

I was moved to reflect on the things that I've done,
And I wondered if I was really having fun.
Then I realized it wasn't about who I was,
But rather about what a man says and does.

I was thinking about it again and again,
And it wasn't about just the loss or the win,
But the trying and doing itself was the thing,
And that simple fact gave me reason to sing.

And then Armistead started this thread just in time,
And that gave me reason to compose this rhyme.
I sat down and did it from the top of my head.
I hope it doesn't make you wish you were dead.

If you wonder whether I should go or should stay,
I'll tell you up front that I've much more to say.
If you wonder whether you should stay or should go,
I'm a songwriter, and that's all you need to know.

Read that one in an airport pay toilet when I was ten.

Still funny though.

The boy stood on the burning deck
His heart was all a quiver
He gave a cough
His leg fell off
And floated down the river

I'm not sure that I can just show 'em.
But a limerick's not really a poem.
If you do it again,
I'll give you a pain,
And teach you until you well know 'em.

The Irish girls’ beauty you cannot deny
But when wed to, you’ll want to die

Don’t marry that Irish gal
They are terrific to drink with like a pal

Or some games of slap and tickle
But when wed you’re in the pickle

The drink they’ll take from your lips
Then pounds they’ll put on their hips

For past trifles you will recompense time and again
Rapt in their demeaning regard for married men

In public they’ll run you down
Make you the laughing stock around town

Your favorite bar you’ll find humiliating
To find she’s been going with the chaps you’re affiliating

As soon as you think you’re through the worst
Through the front door her mum will burst

To ameliorate your home she will claim
Only instructing daughter on the weapon shame

The Celtic daughters learn quite fast
You will lament bachelor days past

Til death do you part echoes in your head
A life not worth living you’re better off dead

Make arrangements to get the deed done
But first shoot her and then her mum

Taking a romantic ride today,
We sat upon the wagon.
Suddenly the horse lifted his tail
And we heard a roaring dragon!

The deafening sound hurt my ears
And the smell burned the hairs in my nose.
My girlfriend sat and glared at me.
Somehow my fault I suppose.
