Default How the Secret Service Said Goodbye to Mitt Romney

Quote:
Of all the indignities involved in losing a presidential race, none is more stark than the sudden emptiness of your entourage. The Secret Service detail guarding Governor Romney since Feb 1. stood down quickly. He had ridden in a 15-car motorcade to the Intercontinental Hotel in Boston for his concession speech. He rode in a single-car motorcade back across the Charles River to Belmont. His son, Tagg, did the driving.
Brief little article on this. It was kind of neat to see how this transition happens. Actually, there isn't any transition.

Nice article, good to see the men behind the sunglasses get a little nod. They do a tough job and get little public recognition for it.

Well that would've saved the country some cash, rather than if Mittens won then you'd have to have security details on both. Another good reason not to vote Rommel.

That's a stupid reason. Do political games extend to protecting a persons life?

POTUS has security before, during and after the job for life. What is the point? Money gets spent to keep the loons at bay.

It is so different up here. Jean Chretien who was Canada's prime minister from 1993 to 2003, has an office in the building where I work. I see him 2-3 times a year, always alone. Everyone knows who he is, but no one bothers him.

Had Romney won, everything would have been different. A full counter-assault team, "Hawkeye Javelin," was on stand-by in Boston, ready to supplement his detail. A team from the White House Communications Agency, which had been consulting with his informal transition team on secure space for intelligence briefings, was on hand too.
Quite a contrast...all dependant on the outcome of an aelection.

I did note though that the local police were informed prior to anything happening.

If he or his family had concerns, Romney's rich enough to easily pay for his own protection. In fact, it would have shown his dedication to eliminating "unnecessary entitlements"...

...and if Romney did pay, he'd probably want to deduct the cost from his taxes...

Someone in his team thought there was going to be a transition: http://www.smh.com.au/technology/tec...109-291o7.html

A bit embarrassing, but something that will soon be forgotten no doubt.

actually i believe after "W" there will be no more SS protection for outgoing presidents.

seems i read that somewhere.

so Obama will have to hire and fund his own protection after his next term.

of course considering the dollar will have been devalued 4 times over by then, he should have no trouble finding help

Romney might have written his victory speech early but at least he didn't plan to create the fictitious "Office of the President Elect" like Obama did....
