Default Thanks and more questions of a new player

So I have SH3 Commander and GWX, and all I can say is WOW! Adds so much to a Vanilla game. Thanks to all that had posted on problems installing and all those that answered those questions. I am enjoying the game very much. I started mt sub playing on my Commodore 128 lol. The game motto was Run Silent, run Deep cant think of the title right now.

Now on to my questions. I have started doing the Naval Academy again and I am getting pummeled on the AA lesson. As soon as I am on ship I crew gun, start moving at Flank, and look for the first plane coming in. I can usually get a few of them but I always get hit. I try changing course manually but still have a hard time completing it. Is it me or is it harder with the mods in it?

Is there a site to replace this one?
Silent Hunter III Community Manual it is down again and think it has all the basics I might need.

Also are there any player made Tutorials for land lubbers like me? I have watched a few things on youtube. Some seem better then others, but I need some thing that will run me through the basics some more.

I find a lot of things on this site but I still feel I am missing a few things like I said.

Also if you have any suggestions besides playing the game more I would enjoy hearing them. I have a feeling some of it will come with practice.

Thanks

Edit: I did do a search of posting and there were alot to go thru and even though I wanted things for SH3 I still found things for others games.

Yes, GWX makes the Flak school very hard. If you keep circling at flank speed and keep your flak gun manned (they die a lot) it is possible to beat it.

The good news is that you don't have to. With GWX just passing the Navigation course gets you the full 1500 renown, so no other class is necessary.

Looks to me you have already learned the lesson from the AA academy.
Don't mess with aircraft.

ROFL ok well I will skip the AA course. I hit the aircraft and then they crash into each other or burn till they hit the water. I know I have shot and flamed the bombers but I dont get the credit it seems. I really just want to dive when I see airplanes.

also does GWX the ability for me to meet supply vessels out on the water?
I have been reading so much hard for me to process it all. I am still trying to figure out how to figure out fire solutions and hunting vessels. I have found a few posts on it and they are helping.

Thanks again

Salute

Yes Just press F1 while in game, and check the category resupply for the dates and locations of both U-tankers and supply ships.

Are there any mods for ships and such I should check out? Any thing that will add to the game play and eye candy? I figure I should learn it from the beginning then add it later on.

if you want to get by all the trainings complete navigation then exit out of came and edit the following file (it will be to the save location which should be documents) SH3 folder>data>cfg double click naval academy file. you should see Exam0=true which means you passed and under that with Result0=700.000000
to make the game think you passed everything just edit the lines underneath the result0 line to
Result1=700.000000
Exam2=true
Result2=700.000000
Exam3=true
Result3=700.000000
Exam4=true
Result4=700.000000

If you're going to go that far, why not just edit your Delta Renown to be 50,000, or 100,000?

i never need that much i get my start sub (use SH3 commander) and don't buy another one (not all kaluens where able to "get" a new sub after all) they may have transferred by orders of BdU. besides i am in 1941 in a type 9b right now on my current campaign and am facing a major surplus of renown.
besides editing that renown takes all the fun out of the game

I see no need to edit the Academy or the renown. I just play the Navigation course, get my 1500 and call it good. I very rarely 'buy' anything at all, including equipment or crew. My point was simply that if you're going to go in and change it for free, why stop there?

Watch Frontier359's SH3 playthrough on YouTube.

It's very detailed and equally long at 5hrs 18min but the best introduction to a game's operation and concepts I've probably ever seen. He used GWX as well.

It's so detailed you can use it as a stock SH3 trainer also.

no reason not to stop but it is always an option to edit the files in your favor. i just know that it takes the funn out of it.. the flak trainning has probably cost me 5 training Uboats and countless numbers of crew

It seems like he can walk in the sub SH5-style, he has new cameras, new interiors and new models for the crew, which mod is that? Apart from the UI which I don't like (I'm used to the stock/GWX one) it's not only GWX, I'm curious
