Default Hantavirus outbreak in the United States.

http://travel.usatoday.com/destinati...dwide/838828/1#

But this stuff only happens in 3rd world countries.

Hantavirus, while not as hollywood cinematic as Ebola is just as bad. It is still in the class of a hemorrhagic fever all the same

http://www.cdc.gov/hantavirus/hps/symptoms.html

http://www.cdc.gov/hantavirus/hfrs/index.html

While not airborn contagious, it is still contagious through fluids.

I am surprised, and disgusted this has not recieved more attention.

Maybe if we let this crap spread a little, then someone will be forced to contain it. Until then, we are at the mercy of the lethargic government.

While death is always a tragedy, we should be reminded that the total number of cases has been eight since June 10th, according to the article. This isn't exactly 1918 Influenza Pandemic. The government has issued warnings to travelers in Yosemite during that period. With only 8 cases in a 3-month period, I'm not sure what else you want them to do.

Diseases only happen in third world nations?

Sounds to me like they are acting reasonably. They know what caused it and they have advised those that where possibly exposed. What else exactly should they be doing?Lock up everyone that has been to Yosemite in the past year?

Only so much you can do, besides make folks aware.

It is why I included symptoms and such.

My governmental slam came from my deep down knowledge that they do not care about us, unless it will cost them votes. So I was trying to hopefully inform my fellow citizens despite them.

My third world comment was dripping with sarcasm, pardon me. (not really, stuff like this is not common in America, and should be a cause for concern.)

It is ok though
But it is not in your backyard...

Yet.

We can start with closing the park, then fumigating it in the same manner they have been fumigating towns in NJ for west nile virus mosquitos.
Yeah the space involved and money, take it from the war budget.

Edit : the apathy on this is telling. I was joking about fumigating it, its impractical, but I already wrote it. But the WGAS response I recieved is staggering.

38% death rate is pretty high...Especially in our medical Mecca.

Yes, but 3 of 8 is a very small sample size. I also don't think that fumigating a National Park is a particularly good idea, and certainly not over a handful of cases.

If the government did not care about us why did they do anything at all then? For any government to remain in power it must in fact "care" about some of its citizens or it would have no support at all. Therefore every government good and bad cares about some.... at least of its citizens.

each year in the US there are localized out breaks of meningitis which is far deadlier than this Hantavirus yet these events rarely make the national news often times 4 or 5 children especially
die from it or are permanently harmed by the illness but that does not make the national news. What the CDC does is quarantine the source usually a school or hospital and gives out vaccination.I think for what ever reason some media outlets are making a huge deal out of this Yosemite deal it is something scary and scary things get people excited.Out breaks of illness are a bit more common than I think you seem to be aware the fact that they do not usually get national(in the news) notice is a sign of how in fact effective the CDC and other agencies in fact are fairly effective. If they do not care about us they sure do a good job.

What makes you think I or Takeda do not give a French word?

I tend to say what i mean so if I do not care I will say or type "I do not care" or something to that effect I try my best not to be misunderstood.I do not use sarcasm or jokes if the subject matter is serious.

I suggest moving into your zombie apocalypse shelter now. It should be safe in five years.

Would be less of a problem if people would quit destroying their immune systems with hand sanitizer.

That 1918 Influenza outbreak killed more people than WWI did yet even those two events and WWII had no effect on the growth of the human race.1% the human population died from influenza during the 1918 outbreak. It would take an extremely major event to make even a serious dent in the human population. Not to sound cold but these things are natures attempt to keep things in balance. We will likely kill ourselves sooner or later when we can no longer feed enough people but we really can not do that all ready and most humans are doing well all things considered.
