Default Recommended mods for 100% realism.

Here I am again...

So my goal is to be able to get the most out of this game by playing at 100% realism. (someday)..

I was hoping someone might have any info on anything I should consider modding to achieve that ...

I am using that commander mod, but Is there anything else that I should be thinking about?

I've looked through/at many mods, but I don't know enough about the game to determine if I need them or not.... or if they would be 'better'...

Perhaps one or two of you may have some advice for me?

Something like... your stock hydrophone doesn't quite work properly.. .get suchandsuch mod for it...

Any info would be helpful, indeed.

Thanks again,

Six.

i would say GWX coupled with the HSIE hardcore mod is as close as you will ever get to the full realism. i will look for the links now and edit them in so you can go to them. they are both incredibly detailed and can take some time to get up and running so its all about how determined you are. i only have GWX and and liking it so far but for the hardcore mod you have to DIY. the instructions are all there but it will take you a while

GWX - http://www.thegreywolves.com/

HSIE's hardcore mod - http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=174225

SH3 Commander won't add to the way things work or look, but it will do for your career what supermods do for gameplay and looks. It is the most valuable asset you can have.

I'm also biased, but I would recommend the Das Boot Sound Mod.

If you use manual targeting I would change the gui as well. Vanilla SH3 and GWX targeting pushes you to use the manual recognition book as a requirement for range finding. You can bypass this, but I think a GUI mod makes this a lot more fluent and realistic-feeling. Trying OLC, MaGui F, Hitman Beta Gui for example might be worth your time.

Please keep in mind that difficulty does not mean realism.

Rockin Robins had an excellent post, I hope he copies here, about how playing with contacts off makes the game more difficult, but not necessarily more realistic.

It is impossible for any computer submarine game to simulate the actions of the entire crew. While command may be lonely, the submarine captain had not only well trained crews but also other electro/mechanical aids for the crew to use.

This is my number one complaint about submarine simulators like the SH series (and every other subsim out there). The player is forced into one of two unrealistic extreme positions

1. Varuna mode - where the player is given all the information with absolute precision.

2. Hermit mode - where the player is the only person on the submarine and has to do everything a crew had to do but by him/herself in the same time.

Both are equally unrealistic. Playing in Hermit mode is certainly more difficult. But is as unrealistic as Varuna mode.

So play the game at the difficulty that entertains you (its a game after all). But don't worry too much about realism as there ain't that much.

you say not much realism but really there is an answer to every problem that this game or indeed any game may have. it just depends if you are bothered or not to fix it yourself like alot of people out there have.

throw me several problems and i shall point out a simple way to improve the realism(FYI i am not a modder but reading some of the others guys stuff i wouldn't be surprised if they could turn SH3 into Xplane 9 )

here is a simple one. people have mentioned that auto aim is too accurate and manual requires you calculate everything yourself. so just build in a 5% inaccuracy to auto aim and just take your measurements and wait 30 seconds for you weapons officer works it out(im guessing he is the one who works it out)

i have huge respect for the people who make this game better and better every day.
