Default Crash due to folder structure? (Solved)

Ok I bought SH collection 3-4+ UM on direct2drive. They switched to gamefly and uploaded the games i had on direct2drive except for uboat missions. What a PIA... fortunately for me i back up my games on an external HD.

The problem is this... the game starts fine and goes to the menu but then it crashes when i select any campaigns etc. I believe its due to not having actually installing it but just dragging it into my c:games folder. Its looking for the folder thats supposed to be in my documents i believe which is not there. I hope this makes sense to everybody.

How can i edit the config or whats the folder or file its lookng for thats causing the crash.
I can play shiv fine that i downloaded from gamefly so i dont think thats the problem.

If that cant be fixed what files could i dump off my external HD to make my working shiv = shiv um?

Have you tried Gamefly's support?

Did you just copy the program files location to your external HD, or the original download from D2D - that would have the installer!

I don't understand. Who (or what) switched to gamefly. Who are "They"? What does that mean? Also, they uploaded the games you had on direct2drive? Do you mean downloaded? I'm confused as to what you mean by this.

Once a game installs, there are .dll (Dynamic Link Library) files (for one) that tell the program where everything is located. Simply dragging and dropping these files to a different location will not fix things. It'll usually make the game crash or fail to load completely.

Gamefly bought out direct2drive. They have their own servers and are migrating the games people bought from direct2drive to their servers. Which are uploaded to gamefly servers which are then downloaded by the customers.

During this time not all the games especially the older ones have made this migration and although i still own the rights to it and have my serial info i cant download the uboat missions because they haven't uploaded it yet.

I contacted them two weeks ago and never received a response.

Also i just dragged and dropped my folder from external hd to my laptop. It still asked me for my serial and i activated it on ubi. Yet it crashes when i try to do campaign

The drag and drop is the issue. It has happened to other folks here who did the same.

I guess, just wait for Gamefly to get it uploaded or look for the DVD version of the game and get that instead.

Maybe you could help me with why the game always crashes when I alt tab out of the game.

Ocassionally if I alt tab out of the game it crashes anyone know of any fixes?

That is something I get too. Not always, but it just dumps the game. I try not to do it if I can avoid it, but sometimes, there's no choice.

Not sure what causes it, but some games are more finiky with things like that. BoBII Wings Of Valor will CTD if you even get close to the ALT + TAB keys!
