Default Surprising cargo

TMO/RSRDC

Used the free camera to inspect a Chitose seaplane tender north of Luzon in December '41. Take a look at what it's carrying in the hangar deck. Anyone noticed this before?

(Yes, it's a submarine.)

Yep. Someone pointed it out years ago. Of course you couldn't be expected to know that, and most here either wouldn't know or might not remember.

Still, good on you for spotting it.

Yep! Memory seems to be the first thing to go! Or the mental hard drive need an OS re-install on my end of it!

Wow, I would never have thought that the tender would be carrying a midget sub, I'm a new member so have no idea of the post you guys are referring too haha but it would kinda make since to do this because would you honestly expect a midget sub attack from a seaplane tender? Exactly, no.

I don't remember which post it was either, so you don't have to feel like you're missing something. It was probably in the 'Screenshots' thread, and probably several years ago.

To attack from a tender, no. But get a lift on a tender to their destination is not surprising. The intended purpose of midgets subs initially was to be deployed in front of enemy fleets or harbor attack, but the majority were more often used in harbor and coastal defense.

The Chistose was a sea plane carrier, sometimes used to carry midget subs, but midget subs were deployed into the battle zone by a mother sub.
The Japanese actually had many midgets at the wars end in Japan, since they had no way to deploy them to battle, but they did plan to use them in mass when the US invaded Japan, which never happened.

Yep, anyone that has played the game eventually will run into a Chitose carrying midgets. I've added a few I-400 subs to my RSRD traffic and spawn midget subs near them to mimmick attacks, such as at Pearl and have a few Chitose related sub drops for fun, etc.

Hmm, I've never noticed that. I must not be looking hard enough.

I was pleasantly surprised the first time I saw one of these ... and then I sank it.

By the way if you hit the "DEL" key on your number pad you can remove your gauges and icons to make an unobstructed photo.
