Space/Sub Sim Fan Requesting Permission To Dock

Hi All
Just arrived on your your fine forum and I must say, what a busy place you have here! .

I've been a fan of Sub Sims since Subwar 2050 and Silent Service 2 on my beloved Amigas, which I might add, I still play! Discovered the Silent Hunter Series when I got my first PC at around 2000 and instantly got right into it. Now hitting the usual starforce problems with installing SH2,3 and 4 on my modern Win 7 PC, but I will get there in the end............um I hope

The other gaming genre I really like are space sims like the Elite series, which I guess are a bit like sub sims in that, your still in a craft in a hostile environment. Something about that appeals to me. Been playing a bit of Oolite and Pioneer too Mmmm, I wonder if the Pioneer devs might add underwater environments to the planet models?

Anyways to finish this first post, I just thought I would add that it's great to see such an active community here. Games like sub sims would have died out years ago if not for communities like yours. Big PC gaming devs are just so focused these days on the mainstream, when they dont realise there is much more fun to be had "under" the mainstream

Hello to you all!

I've been on subsim for about a year now and I love the community here. We're all polite and civilized here (from my experience) and this community is VERY helpful. Ask almost any question and somebody can answer it. The last community I was a part of, pspdemocenter, was like a Nazi site. They were all business and off topic posts were strictly forbidden. It was a site full of unhelpful people and none of my questions were answered (my experience) so I'm very glad I found Subsim and I am impressed at the operation going on here. I salute Neal Stevens! And one for Sailor Steve, who also does a lot here! and a bonus one to jimbuna for introducing me to GWX!

Welcome aboard

I always think I've only been to Scotland once (a week or two at Lock Ewe), and I always forget that I actually got married there, but only Gretna so it's only just in Scotland.

Don't tell my missus though.

@ miggy4000 There's a guide in the SH3 forum on how to run SH3 on win7 and Vista. That's how I got my game running. Dont bother with those "expansions". Those are just discs of mods from the Internet basically. The "expansions" are just copying other peoples work. Now, if you want the best experience possible, download GWX3 from the page indicated by Jimbuna's signature. You want the 7 .bin files and the .exe and for the next part, snag the SH3 Commander cfg files. Then, head to the Subsim download section and get SH3 commander. Install it over a fresh 1.4b. You will not be disappointed.

@jimbuna I believe these intstructions are correct on how to download GWX3. Is there a certain install order?

Hey, thanks for that very useful advice Red October1984! I will look those up!

I have had to uninstall SH III and start again , that expansion totally wrecked the install and it would crash back to desktop half way through loading!
Also while digging through my old games, I found a copy of DC! I had completely forgot that I bought that years ago! Result! That and SH II run flawlessly.

One thing though, was there ever any mods to boost the resolution of SH II & DC? I know they are old games and not as immersive as SH III or IV, but they do have a charm about them I like
Oh, and thank you for your welcome also Herr-Berbunch, yes Loch Ewe is a lovely place to visit.

That sounds okay but there are also detailed installation instructions available from the GWX website (available by clicking on my sig).

WOW! I got GWX3 installed, what a difference! This isn't just a mod its upgraded everything! This is really great work. Oh, and snagged some Das Boot sound effects too, they really added to the atmosphere. Y'know I sank a tanker tonight (halfed it in two in fact) and for the first time ever I decided to sit with it as it went under. The sounds it gave off as it the seabed.................I don't know if this was in the standard game or if GWX3 added it, but it really hammered home what I had just done
