Bearing in the binoculars in GWX ?

I have spent a lot of time checking the forums but couldn't find it. I just want to put back the bearing in the binocular view in GWX3. I know that there are a couple of Gui mods that do that but they also do some major changes which i'd rather not have.

So the question is can i just put back the bearing in the binocular view ? And if yes can someone tell me which file i need to edit and how so i can do it ?

Also if possible I'd like to remove the huge pop/slide out compass from gwx, any info on this also will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi MultiDoc. Couldn't find anything on the slide out compass, but I think this mod should put the bearing marks back in the binocular view.

Good hunting.

Personally, I like not having the bearings, realism and all.

Also, I couldn't live without that compassx, so accurate compared to the default one.

I was going to ask about something similar... guess I don't need to make a new thread! Thanks.

"Navigator, new course 75 degrees port." *click*

"Course now 70 degrees to port."

"No! 75 degrees, port!" *click*

"Course now 78 degrees to port."

"NO!"

Agreed. Each to his own but I can't use it. Realism killer. If I want an accurate bearing on surface I use the UZO. I kinda miss the big compass though but I really like OLC's GUI 1.2.7. Guess you can't have everything.

Appreciate all the replies gents, I know bearings in the binocular view isn't actually realistic but then again having no clue what the bearing is at the point you're looking at isn't either i think.

Again thanks for that link, will try it it out.

Remove (or replace) compass bearing marks:

BTW for those who want the original bearing marks back, open your menu.ini and find the binos block, you'll see that the tga being used is bearing2.tga (IIRC), change it back to bearing.tga (IIRC) and the game will use the original file I left in there. Must have been clarvioant that day.

Remove Slideout Compass:

Youre request can be done easily. I just took a quick look into the file and its about 3 little changes:
first, make backups of [SH3 install]\data\Menu\menu_1024_768.ini and one of [SH3 install]\data\Menu\cfg\Dials.cfg
second, edit the menu_1024_768.ini and find the string [G3F I300] in there.
You've got to delete the following eight blocks (the ones 'g3f i300' to 'g3f i307'). (That's no problem because no blocks are following behind them in this section).
Then third, go to the ...\data\Menu\cfg\Dials.cfg to it's very end and delete the the block there (which begins with [Dial 52]). You should also go to the beginning of the dials.cfg and decrease the DialsNo setting by one.
Let us know whether it worked out, but there shouldn't be any problems.

I personally use a mod that not only has the compass but also has huge slideout depth and speed guages.

Thank you for explaining how to remove the slide out Compass, which I don't use and find it annoying.

Just done all the changes for removing the slide out compass and everything seems to running ok in the sim. The slide out compass is no longer there now when on the Map view.

The compass bearing marks are still not showing in the Binocular view, after installing the mod with JSME. Well they are not showing my pair of binoculars on my particular boat.

Mod? JSGME? You have to open the menu.ini and change the name in the Compass section.

Can you be more specific Steve and explain what I have to look for in the menu.ini ( I take it you are refering to the data\Menu\1024_768 ini )

What am I looking for and what do I have to change. Change to what?

Just zoom in and out just like you would IRL. Put a pair of binos upto your eyes and spin around a few times. You won't have a very good idea o where your looking. Pull them off and look down at the boat. If you need an accurate reference, hit U an use the UZO.
