Default DayZ

Surprised there isn't already a thread for this!

http://dayzmod.com/

For the few of you who haven't heard of it, this ArmA 2 zombie survival RPG mod which is currently exploding in popularity despite still being in alpha - 80% of all ArmA 2 online capacity is DayZ servers, and ArmA 2 has suddenly shot up the top sales list on Steam again. It's been getting a lot of attention in the gaming press last couple of days for its unique features, many calling it perhaps the most important game event this year: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/05/16/da...story-machine/

Unfortunately, the explosion of popularity has also meant that the central server, which stores player characters (that carry over to any server that you play on, assuming you survive long enough to exit the game) and maintains stats, is totally overloaded, and even getting into the game as an ordeal. But I did manage to get about 3 hours of play in today (after waiting an average of 10 minutes on the "waiting for server" loading screen) and it was pretty amazing.

Anyone else playing/thinking of playing this?

I've played that mod for almost two weeks straight, killed by zombies and bandits many times. Right now I'm taking a time off.

If you're going to play this mod, let me give you an advice:

Don't trust anyone.

It's been mentioned in the News thread, unfortunately the fact that my computers copy of ARMA2 and OA don't talk to each other the way that DayZ thinks that they should means that I can't play it

Just installed it. Should I be looking out for a specific server to find you?

This is what for firing a shot in the middle of the city, while looting inside the market.

Been thinking about it, but the best strategy seems to be to gang up. Doubt I'll get much out of it shlepping about on my own.

Just started today, and am having a blast. When I can get in, that is. And when I am not disconnected after 5 minutes.

I was wondering is a Subsim server might be possible. Or maybe a meet up on a public server?

Just played it for 1½ hour and I managed to get out of a zombie infested town.
I walked inland for some time and atm im a bit lost with water nearby but out of food and almost out of bullits.
Keeping my head low and try to get some food and bullits somewhere to survive my first day

Never known a game mod where you can go woot for so little ,I've found a pair of Binoculars with my current character and I almost jumped out of my chair to do a little happy dance (dont have a better gun or anything like that though ,just the binoculars) .
I think it's like minecraft ,A very simple concept done right

Best way I've seen other forums get around the server issue is both agreeing to meet on a particular server, and adding tags to your name so people can recognise you. To do the latter, you need to go into Profiles in your Arma2 menu and edit the existing one or add a new profile (character will stay the same even with a new arma profile).

I'm currently running around as [EG] Orpheus. If anyone's on tonight, maybe we can coordinate servers!

I play under the username "Otohiko". I've been playing US Hardcore servers when it's day there, switching to Russian servers by night.

My current character, by some miracle, has been alive for over 9 hours now. I've been saved twice in the past hour by this random Russian, and I think that made me more grateful to another player than I've ever been in a game before

Now that I've learned how blood transfusions and other medicine works, that makes me realize that, in fact, you pretty much need to be with other players if you plan to survive nasty encounters. If you're solo, your only way to live is to be stealthy.

I've spent a week (well, weekends) to get this game working. Problem is that I have a non-steam ARMA II and a steam Arrowhead. I've managed to combine them before but I don't remember how I did it. Now, when I thought I had resolved the combining problem with steam ARMA free, Arrowhead stopped working. I uninstalled it and installed it again couple of times but the same problem exists. Now I'm backing up my files so I can format my HDs and reinstall windows. All this for one game...

I've got the same Crecy, the way I got it working was to install my retail Arma2 straight into the steam Arrowhead folder (so you end up with a 'bohemia interactive/arma 2 files' path at the top level of your OA directory). Then select 'run as Combined Ops' from the steam menu that appears when launching OA from the Library window - if you launch it from, say the rclick steam menu in your windows bar, you don't get the startup choices

Thank you 0rpheus! I have to try that.

at the serverlist. Globally there's currently about 5 times the normal amount of Arma2 players online at this time of day.

Checking this one out as we speak.
