Yes, you can play it but you will have some frame rate problems. They will occur in harbor and near convoys. If you have particle density set up, you will also have problems with busy graphics, such as burning ships.
Since the cost of GWX isn't a factor, install it and see if the game play is OK.
The best way to booste your machine would be to add 2Gb of RAM and use the 4Gb switch.

I wonder what that switch is

Can you explain?

I'm playing on a 2.0GHz dual core athlon64 laptop, with 4GB of RAM,
BUT, with CPU speeds limited to 1GHz to prevent overheating.
And I'm playing from Linux using Windows Emulator Wine, that can
make it slower

Just a bit slow on some particular places as irish1958 here said.

Default Thank you,so much

I have just managed to download and install the GWX 3 expansion, after much messing about, and would like to say a massive thanks to the dev team.
What a spanking great effort that is!!
It is utterly superb and worth a lot of money imo.
I'm just learning how to install these mods,(i'm a complete newbie where computing things are involved)and am just bowled over on how skilled these modders are.
Love and respect to all you mod guys

Digging up dead threads to congratulate the modders is pretty unusual.

Then I would like to add my current thread http://174.123.69.202/~subsimc/radio...29#post1882429

In which I said

"I know that you will have heard this many times before but you and the GWX team did a great job and those of you who are still servicing this fantastic game/simulation are greatly thought of by those of us who are loyal to SH3 GWX.

Many thanks.

MFP"
