Default Question about GWX Torpedoes and Carnovaro's Charts

So I came across these charts made my Carnovaro presumably a long time ago. I'm not sure however if they're technically still applicable in GWX 3 Gold. Basically has anything been changed regarding the actual speed of the torpedoes that might make a chart made form a previous version of GWX or from stock SH3 incorrect mathematically?

These charts are btw for Zero-TDC firing at a 90 degree AOB to the target. The chart gives you a periscope bearing offset for firing at a target on a known course and speed without having to take range into account. I could test them but I'm also curious to know in general if the torpedo speeds were changed for my own reference so I can know in the future how to judge charts and math from older versions of SH3.

Also, if the math has changed how would I go about making a new chart on these line? I am no math wiz but this game is the only one that has driven me to understand at least some of the rudimentary math behind it.

For reference this is part of the particular chart I'm talking about.

I also have these charts and as far as I am aware they are correct for use with GWX.

There may occur a problem with the G7e torpedos. IIRC at least the first version TII - if not all of them - have this 30 knots bug. GWX didn't fix it either, maybe because they were not aware of the problem/solution. The speed setting for the G7e is not 30 knots but 28 knots, resulting in the little offset while switching between "slow" G7a and G7e tubes. Check the TDC screen dials for verification. The little inner dial reads 28 knots for G7e torpedos. You may want to use Silent3ditor to mod the correct speed setting for the G7e types to ensure your charts will work properly.

I'd just as soon make a 28 knot chart honestly. And I completely forgot about the 28 knot bug.

Anybody have an explanation of how to figure the math out on this? I could probably stare at a blank piece of paper and burn through a dozen pencils over the course of 4 or 5 hours and figure it out but maybe someone can save me the trouble.

For a perpendicular track:

Tangent of lead angle = target speed / torpedo speed

or

lead angle = Arctangent (target speed / torpedo speed)

So, for example, firing a 28 knot torp to hit a ship traveling at 10 knots requires a lead angle of 19.6 degrees.

Just remember, this only works for a 90 deg. track.

P_Funk,

Thanks for starting this thread.
I never knew about the 30kts bug so I'm thinking about changing the table.
I was looking for the original xls file but I seem to have lost it.
Will update the collection files asap.

Helo old friend. Looking forward to a revision of your chart.

Cheers,

Ken

No problem. I'm just annoyed that I hadn't found your documents collection sooner. There is a lot of great stuff in there.

Looking forward to your changes.

I'm glad you find it useful.

I did find the original file and made a 2.0 version.
You als might like the updated RPM table, which I made some time after the release of the collection:
