So, I'm starting to get a little involved in astronomy and have a telescope now... so I went to a meeting in a nearby town. I'm sitting there when this older gentleman walks in with a shirt with a submarine on it and a submarine on his hat. He also happened to be from my city... I randomly ran into a WWII submarine vet!?! I told him I was into submarine simulators, but that was about the extent of our submarine talk.
I didn't even know we had a submarine vet in our city let alone to randomly run into him. Of course my American Submarine knowledge is weak as I have played German campaign games and have only played the german campaign in SH4... as I'm used to those boats, torpedoes, etc... Anybody have any specific questions I could ask him? |

I find most old WW2 vets either will talk your head off or don't want to talk at all, which is he? If he likes to talk, ask him what class of sub he was on, where he patrolled, a million questions.

First thing is to thank him for his service to our country. Then ask him his name, what boat he served on, if he wasn't the skipper, who his skipper was, what position he had on the boat, any memorable adventures he may have had. Since he was wearing the shirt and hat, he will probably talk to you, if you show you are sincerely interested in what he has to say. And most of all, thank him for his service from all of us here at subsim.
