Default New to Subsim Forums, Old to SH4

Howdy y'all. First post on here, so .

I just dug out my old copy of SH4 that i was playing on a gaming rig i built in 2005 and it never really was able to handle SH4's graphics at their highest, but I've bought an alienware laptop now and this game was one of the first ones i wanted to pop in and juice up the graphics. What a good choice! That was 3 days ago and I have gotten 5 full war patrols in for 3 different boats out of Brisbane in 1942 (im a Marine IRL and wanted to see the games representation of guadalcanal and the 2 battles of Savo Island, unfortunately the stock v1.0 or whatever it is doesnt do jack **** to represent these events well, sigh) and very little sleep lol.

Now my game tweaking instincts have reared their beautiful heads (and headaches i remember) and Im starting to download mods. I guess Im curious as to which combos of mega mods to go for. Ive been fingering through these forums for awhile and it looks like its RFB/RSRD and TMO/RSRD are the 2 most notorious. I read descriptions of them all and I know for sure the RSRD pack has a buncha goodies i wanna taste, but if i can have only TMO or RFB with it which is the preferable one?

And I know you can have multiple installs of mods with that one utility, but I would rather just find something once and stick with it for a career that I plan on starting in 41 and going through the whole war (meaning i dont want to lose my career with mod patches/updates)

comments, inquiries and questions welcomed

Others should have better info than me....however I believe first you have to upgrade from stock v1.0, most of the supermods are for v1.5, though I think there is a TMO for v1.4

I bought mine as gold edition v1.5, yet I think you can update to v1.4 for free. I am not sure but others should be around to give you more help.

Welcome aboard

thanx thanx.....i just finished DLing and installing the u boat add on, since all mod supported mods no longer support 1.4 (hell whats 10 bucks for months of gameplay hours anyway: though i do disagree with charging for an actual patch (this one seems like an expansion pack moreso)). I am also currently downloading TMO v 2.5 and RSRDC v575 (the TMO compatable labeled one).

I have a question on the which is the latest RSRDC version for the TMO combo pack.....Im hoping im all up to date with whats in the chamber now....but other file sites have older versions of these files listed with compatability to eachother. Are the files on this site the most current of the mods does anyone know? The descriptions leave a little to be desired for the new comer

I think RSRDC 575 is for RFB.....you need RSRDC 502 for TMO

There is a Tambor class boat bug, without the fix toy may end up with a Tambor for the duration of the war.

and why settle for TMO 'or' RFB? run them both AND have a stock backup game with 'MultiSH4 v.1.5'

and with no shame of plugging my own post, I have written about it in my latest thread... im a rookie at this modding thing but the outlined process works for me... i currently have both, but the problem is it leaves me wanting to fuse them together ahahhaaaah! ! !
