Default Gold Edition: gameplay differences?

I have the Gold Edition of Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific w/ U-boat missions, on DVD. Tried to patch it to version 1.5 --- got a message indicating I already had 1.5.

I seem to have neither an "ID target button" nor an event camera. Also, although I have an attack map, it seems not to have the grid imposed, that I have seen in screen captures here.

What's going on?

Edited to add: Also, I tried installing TMO/RSRDC but they seem not to have "taken."

First of all, Happy Easter and Welcome.

The Gold Edition IS version 1.5, therefore no additional patching is required. You should have an "ID Target" button (I haven't played the stock version in a while) and it should be at your periscope station somewhere in the string of buttons on the bottom. You have to enable the Event Camera in the "Game Options" menu that appears in your Home Port office. You should see a radio on a shelf inside your office and clicking on it will lead to the "Options" menu.

The mods add different looks and capabilities to your gameplay experience. You say you tried to add TMO/RSRDC but they haven't taken. By what manner or process (or, how) did you try to add them?
Did you use JSGME to install them, and did you properly install JSGME to your SHIV root folder?

Thank you! Ack, feel silly now. I'm sure you're right about the event camera; I've not noticed the radio in my office. Usually, at that moment, my top concern is changing out the unreliable Mark XIVs for Mark X's. (The date on my current patrol is Feb 1942).

And I'm guessing the "target ID" button mentioned by others is the button that brings up the recognition manual --- which may have more function on auto-targeting; I'm not sure, but I'm using manual targeting.

I installed the TMO/RSRDC mods using JSGME. JSGME is located in C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific. [Windows 7; perhaps the folder naming conventions are different from Vista. I don't recall.]

I haven't noticed a difference with TMO thus far. At the end of this patrol, I expect an upgrade to a Porpoise-class sub, which in the stock game has a rear-mounted deck gun. TMO moves all deck guns to forward mounts, so I hope to know for sure, shortly after I shoot my last 6 torpedoes and RTB at the end of this patrol. I may have downloaded a corrupted copy of TMO or RSRDC. My 'net connection is throttled at 5GB per month, which causes many headaches and may even cause corruption of downloaded files.

Danke, Herr von Trapp! My regards to Julie Andrews....

The Recognition Manual is completely different than the "ID Target" button. The Recognition Manual will only give you a picture and limited information about each type of ship. When you install a Mod, unzip it into the "Mods" folder inside your SHIV root folder (the same place where JSGME is installed), then open JSGME and you'll see the mods in the left pane. Use the middle arrows (in JSGME) to move the mods into the right pane and now your mods are activated. Some mods, like TMO, can only be installed while in Home Port.

Strange. I do *not* have a Target ID button. Tried uploading a screen shot to prove it, but must be doing something wrong; pasting the image would not work.

JSGME is installed in the root directory but not in the MODS folder. TMO, RSRDC, and some sound mods are in the MODS folder. The sound mods seem to work fine.

But in my next career I will take your advice and move JSGME to the MODS folder!

Thanks for the help.

JSGME can be installed anywhere, as long as its shortcut points to your SH4 installation folder. To make sure, right-click on the short-cut, select Properties, and check to see where "Start In" points to - in your case, it should be "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific".

Your problem may be in the fact you have SH4 in the "Programs Files" folder.
It can be difficult to add mods with it there. Would suggest moving the game to a dedicated Silent Hunter folder.

If you don't have a ID target button it sounds like the mod didn't take per the problem above. The load screen should say Tiger Maru Overhauled".

Thanks so much! I'll wait until the end of my current career to move it. I've only been playing SH4 for a month, and it's still new and fascinating....

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. You don't have to (shouldn't) move JSGME into your Mods folder. Only your mods go there. JSGME and the Mods folder should both be in your SHIV root folder. What DrBeast says is true also. I just install JSGME into the root folder because I don't use it for anything else.

Thanks to all. I know where look for the problem now, but don't want to tinker just yet.

I have SH3 and SH4 both installed in the Ubisoft folder. I'll probably uninstall SH3 and start from there, when my current career ends.
