Default XCOM: Enemy Unknown

So they're doing a reimagining of X-COM. I must admit I haven't gotten around to playing the previous games despite owning them, so I can't comment on how "X-COM-y" the thing is, but in it's own right it looks pretty interesting.

Website: http://www.xcom.com/enemyunknown/info.php

And a slew of articles on RPS: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/xcom-enemy-unknown/

While we're on the subject of X-COM, have a look at Xenonauts too. It's a remake which I think sticks closer to the exact mechanisms of X-COM.

Either way, we can't lose.

Really should play the originals again, loved them.

Had the alpha of Xenonauts for a while - it was sketchy early on but its really taking shape now and I have not unreasonably high hopes for it.

X-Com on the other hand... it looks good. But it's not going to be like the original. I think it'll be a decent game and will probably be a more successful reboot of the franchise than ohyetanotherfps, but I think those with fond memories of the originals will drift towards Xeno over the Firaxis version.

Xeno's graphical style is definitely more pleasing to me, always hated 2D->3D
conversions.

UFO Extraterrestrials is the closest I have been able to find to the original XCOM game (which rocked!)

If this "Enemy Unknown" is in the spirit of XCOM, I think I have another game to put on my list.

I remember playing XCOM Interceptor back in the 90s thought it was a great game but not so good with the fans at the time. The only XCOM game I played.

I gotta admit, while I have some reservations about any remake of a game as utterly, stupendously good as the original X-COM, these guys DO seem to have the right idea, and the way cover seems to be working reminds me of many moments, hollering at my little soldiers about why no one every taught them to hug a wall or go prone.

The base-building bit was what impressed me the most though.

Really looking rather good imho and the pre-order is live at this point.

So many amazing memories from UFO:Enemy Unknown and the 2nd one,
something something Deep. I really really hope we get a proper sequel to
the series.

Tried, I think it was Aftermath, the first 3D game, and if I could've gotten away
with it, I would've murdered the whole dev team.

Have pre-ordered Xenonauts, so I don't need this.

I did a bit of work on Xenonauts so I should be biased, but tbh I'll get and play both of them.

Had completely forgotten Xenonauts. 22€ to pre-order the Premium edition,
not bad.

It's a truly awesome game, so much atmosphere, especially during night missions. I think I'll be spending many happy hours with it once it comes out.

I'll probably at least get the demo of this other game at some point, though, as I'm a sucker for X-Com-style games in general.
