Default Captain Cox Silent Service Mod

I see Captain Cox's Mod that changes the background images is down on Subsim download section... anyone has an active download link for it?

Thanks

That's because Rockin Robbins put up a link to GameFront instead of putting it up on Subsim Downloads.

I really wish people wouldn't do that. If someone can get me a copy I'll put it up here for real.

I'd love to have my 200 plus Mb mods go to the SubSim FTP site, but 'ol Onkle has a limit on the storage space. I've got two mods there for storage, but there's no room for a third. GameFront is the only alternative.

Okay, then I apologize. I didn't know that.

No apology necessary Steve.

The main SubSim "Download" site reports a maximum of 35Mb allowable for the mods listed there. For all I know the Rockin Robbins uploads of the Captain Cox Silent Service mod fit's under that limit.

To have SubSim keep larger mods, their uploaded to the SubSim FTP site, and a link to the download is made to it. As I said Neil gave me access to the FTP site, and I do have a couple of my mods uploaded there. It's just I can't load any more to it. I'll start the upload process for a third LARGE memory mod and only get half way through the upload. The upload stops in mid-stream and never finishes. My only conclusion is there is a limit on how much storage space is allocated to the SubSim FTP site per account. I've PM Neil twice about it with no answer. GameFront with it's flaws, is the only answer..... short of me paying for file storage space. This "gig" doesn't pay that well!!

I understand, and after a little thinking I have to fall back on my original position. My problem isn't with using Subsim or not. My problem is with using Subsim as a link point to another site, and then letting the mod on the other site die. People see a Subsim link and try to use it, and then complain (as in this case) that the Subsim link is bad. The Subsim link is not bad, but it leads to a bad link, and we look bad in turn.

Yes, I understand what you mean now. GameFront, the 'ol FileFront game site will remove any "inactive" uploads after 180 days. Many a good mod left on the GameFront site (linked or not through SubSim) is erased by GameFront with this type of arrangement. I know FileFront used to send an E-mail notifying you of there potential action to erase an inactive file. I don't know if GameFront will do the same.

I see your point regarding a SubSim link to a GameFront uploaded mod that's erased due to their limitations on inactive content. SubSim gets a black eye due to someone else's policy on storing file content. Not a favorable position to be put in.

One alternative on the GameFront site is to upload the mod to their permanent file database. You have to "submit" the file for consideration AFTER it's been uploaded through the regular GameFront process. The files must have a written explanation of what it does, and of course, be free of any malicious content. I've put a few there myself, with one drawback, you can't alter or change the files once submitted and accepted. How would it be to find 20 some Trigger Maru's all listed for download starting with the first version, up to the latest Trigger Maru Overhauled 2.5!! That would be maddening too.

Good points. I'm thinking the best solution at this point is to make sure Plissken04 hears about it so he can put it on his excellent site.

Have you looked at Mediafire? They have a free service, and I think as long as you log into your account at least once a week they won't delete your files regardless of how much or how little they're downloaded. Individual file sizes are limited to 200MB, but other than that there's no upload limit.

Thanks Fred, I've had some files on MediaFire before but it's been a while.

That 200Mb limit may be a problem though. The last couple of mods I've released have their sizes around 400Mb. I've got them leaned down as much as I can, yet they've grown into monsters.

You just split them into multi-part files, like I do with my radio stations and music. You can upload as many files as you want, they just individually can't be over 200MB.

I hate to be a big PITA, but I'm really hoping someone could provide a link, or upload it somewhere if they have it. I'd really like to use it. Thanks again.
