Hello... I have searched this forum, unsuccessfully, so I am posting a new thread. My question is - when do you get a Knight's Cross medal? And do you ever get promoted to a rank higher than Oberleutnant zur See?
I am still in the Total Germany campaign, I have sunk over 350.000 tons and I have still not been promoted nor awarded anything higher than Iron Cross 1st class (3 times)... I love this game, but this is totally unrealistic. Is there a mod maybe that fixes this? Thanks |

Yes.. I know it is unrealistic... So early in the game and already more tons than Kretschmer... But my question is how many tons do you need to get a Knight's Cross... How many tons to get promoted?

Actually, I've been wondering about that too, so I'd say it's a fairly good question.
![]() I remember the early days with SH3 when you'd be handed a suitcase full of medals, ribbons, badges and inflatable toys every time you got home from a patrol which, I have to admit, was a bit much. At some point I was wondering if the giant mountains of metal the BdU needed to supply my crew with glitter wasn't putting a serious dent into the nation's war efforts. German industry could build a regiment of PzIVs if they melted down my crew's average medal haul after each patrol ![]() It got more realistic as SH3 got modded every which way, thankfully. On the other hand, the BdU does seem a bit stingy with recognition in SH5, but maybe it's just because I got spoiled by SH3. I will say, though, that if I have to choose between the "every return is Christmas" from SH3 and the "80,000BRT on your first outing? So what? Here, have an EK2 and stop whining already" approach of SH5, I'd still go with SH5. ![]()

Why does everyone refer to SH3 as the early days? Obviously SH1 and 2 are the Early days.

Mainly because SH3 is now seven years old, and it changed everything from the earlier games. SH4 and SH5 are compared to SH3 in that respect, and the others aren't really considered. I remember the complaints when the SH2 threads were moved to 'Classic Subsims'. I also remember playing Silent Service in 1986. Now those were early days. Personally I still play SH3 more than any other. Of course I still play SH1 and Aces from time to time. Never SH2 though.
