Default Alternative to Google Search?

Since the latest news that Google ist actively trying to bypass security settings and cookie settings in your browser in order to read out data from your system and to profile you even if you have set the security of your Firefox or Explorer to close your system and to prevent such spying, and since I learned about their new spionage directive that becomes valid from tomorrow on (granted, most interesting only for those being careless enough to maintain a Google account), I am finally done and sick and tired of Google. The problem I have with them is that they claim more rights to collect data over persons than the citizen of a Western states usually would accept the police or the state to have about him. Insiders say that an ordinary proifile of a typical Googlist or social network user is worth 100-130 dollars, and that is really good money and means they are really have a motive to set up a push to get into your privacy. Without checks and balance. Without counter-control. With the servers standing in the US and foreigners and Americans being completely unable to ever learn about what is being done with these data, and how long they get stored, and by whom, and where.

So:

What is the best alternative to Google Search, in your opinions? Which crawler produces the best results and scans the greatest number of websites on the web? What is th ebest search engine to use that does not spy on you, does not try to profile you, and does the best job in results?

Well, there's always the Dewey decimal system. Or you can try out DuckDuckGo.

Get a €cheap tablet and use it for everything you don't want to subject your normal PC to.

Well, I sometimes use ask.com but it isn't such an awesome search site.

I tried that but strangely whenever I wanted Google.com I got Google.de....If Google still knows where I'm from even when using a foreign proxy then I'm not sure how much that will really keep the data kraken away from you (besides why would I trust some obscure proxy server with the data I don't trust to Google?)

Maybe you could dig up an 18 year old version of Netscape?

http://duckduckgo.com/ is generally pretty good. Not really supported out of the box by most browser search bars though IIRC.

It depends on what you are looking for. Let me know your likely searches, your credit card details, your bank account number and pin and any interesting proclivities you have and I'll do the searching for you.

TarJak, always so helpful. You don't have to trust them to evil Google - just trust them to angel TarJak and nothing will ever happen... except small disappearance stunt in your bank account but that wasn't angel TarJak's fault, okay?

Untill last week I would have said scroogle - basically a google scraper or in short: google without the ******* stuff. Sadly it died last week...

Ixquick is a good one, they have a no tracking policy, it's available in a language of your choice and it lets you search for pics and vids.

A good German meta crawler is, ja, richtig geraten : metacrawler.de - though I don't know about their privacy policy.

Didn't know this search engine before- great one . I especially like that it lets you also search through a certain websites (site:...)
And I like the tracking explanaition by them (http://donttrack.us/) where they also show present some good tools at the end of the site. I put it into my search engine list - thanks for the good tip!
